Information and Application Packet

Career professionals and others are invited to enroll in an accelerated, one-year foreign language secondary licensure program. Requirements include a completed B.A. or B.S. or equivalent content in the licensure field with a minimum of 2.75 G.P.A. and a commitment to successfully complete the program’s 24 education graduate credits in Fall ’08, Spring ’09, and Summer ’09 through courses in the evenings, Saturdays, and online. Space is limited.

Selection criteria for free-tuition scholarship in the Ohio CORE Foreign Language program:

<1> Undergraduate major in Spanish, French, Chinese or Arabic or extensive linguistic and cultural knowledge (equivalent to proficiency at Advanced-Low level)

<2> Desire to become a teacher of Spanish, French, Chinese or Arabic

<3> Commitment to successful completion of 24 graduate credits in a one-year accelerated program

<4> Complete B.A. or B.S. with an overall G.P.A. of 2.75

<5> TOEFL score is needed for international applicants (550 on paper or 213 on the computer-based)

<6> Evidence of being able to pass Praxis II Content Area

To apply to the accelerated program, applicants must submit the following to the UA College of Education PCPTFL Institute Director:

<1> Complete A UA College of Education teacher education program application

<2> Letter of support from two of the following: the applicant’s employer, a former professor or advisor, or a personal reference (priest or pastor)

<3> A personal statement (regarding the applicant’s rationale for pursuing the career change, expectations and possible challenge, commitment to completion of the program and to teaching in Ohio, and current knowledge of Spanish/ French/ Chinese/ Arabic language and culture.)

<4> An Official Transcript

<5> An OPI rating of Advanced Low or better from an interview with UA French/Spanish faculty or an ACTFL tester: Intermediate High for Arabic and Mandarin. This can be done through individual appointments with UA faculty or by phone with ACTFL testers through Language Testing International

<6> A face-to-face interview will be necessary after material screening and acceptance to the first round of selection.

Once accepted in the program candidates must complete application to the UA graduate school
