Bachelor of Science in Postsecondary Technical Education

The Bachelor of Science in Postsecondary Technical Education (B.S.T.E.) is designed to prepare instructors and trainers for postsecondary educational institutions, industry, public and private agencies engaged in education and the training of adults. This degree is not intended for Ohio public school teacher certification/licensure (K-12). This degree focuses on producing instructors, who primarily teach subjects within a technical specialty at the postsecondary level. The program consists primarily of five major classifications: business technologies, engineering technologies, health technologies, natural science technologies, and public technologies. The student, with prior approval of the advisor, may select other career areas.

A student in Postsecondary Technical Education must maintain at least a 2.5 average in all professional education coursework and a 2.5 average in all technical coursework directly related to the student's technical field.

Graduation requirements for the Postsecondary Technical Education program include a minimum of 128 semester hours (more might be required for expertise) with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher for the award of Bachelor of Science in Postsecondary Technical Education. Students must complete or transfer 42 hours of general education and 51 hours of technical education coursework. The last 32 hours must be completed at The University of Akron.The last 32 hours are available in fully on-line courses.
