Bowers Degree Completer Scholarship
(Pending available funding)

With the support of Bruce O. Bowers, an Adult Focus benefactor and College of Business Administration alumnus, UA Adult Focus has established the scholarship for nontraditional students. This scholarship is intended for students who have borrowed limits of Stafford aggregate loans, and it will cover the cost of classes up to $4,000 (fees excluded) for one semester at The University of Akron.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • Student has met limits of Stafford aggregate loan eligibility.
  • Ages 25 and older (If younger, state the reason why applicant should be considered a nontraditional student).
  • U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
  • Admitted in the degree-granting college with at most 30 hours left to graduate if working towards a Baccalaureate degree or 15 if working toward an Associate's degree (no exceptions).
  • Enrolled at least half time, with the status maintained through the semester.
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Nonrenewable.
  • Transfer students must have at least 32 credit hours completed within the past two years at The University of Akron, with at most 30 hours remaining to graduate.
Application Process
  • Please note: One-page, single-spaced essay on one of two offered topics is required (refer to application).
  • Current year FAFSA on file with Office of Student Financial Aid and Employment.
The following materials need to be sent to UA Adult Focus:
  • Three letters of reference, with at least one from a faculty member of The University of Akron.
  • Graduation Evaluation from the degree-granting college.
