College of Fine and Applied Arts School of Communication

|
The School of Communication at The University of Akron blends fine and applied arts with the humanities and social sciences. Here, communication is seen as artistic and practical, vital to preparing students for careers in communication while helping them be more valuable members of society.
The school's curriculum reflects new technologies and career opportunities while preserving a solid liberal arts foundation. Students are encouraged to develop specific job-related skills in public relations, organizational communication, rhetoric, interpersonal communication, broadcasting, radio and video production, and news. They receive valuable hands-on experience through service learning in courses, availability of media and computer labs, and an extensive internship program.

| Students also benefit from working with WZIP-FM, the radio station owned and operated by the University. WZIP-FM has a signal range covering most of northeast Ohio and programming that includes contemporary music, news, interviews and sports. Z-TV provides the students video programming and production throughout the year, including the weekly production of the community affairs program for broadcast on PAX-23 and projects for PBS 45-49. The student newspaper, The Buchtelite, is published twice a week throughout the academic year. |

|
The graduate program attracts students from the eastern United States and many foreign countries. Several graduate students each year go on for doctoral and professional studies at other institutions.
The School of Communication is housed in Kolbe Hall, a recently remodeled building in the heart of the campus.
