Accreditation

American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) has granted accreditation to The School of Family and Consumer Sciences at The University of Akron. AAFCS accreditation provides a conceptual umbrella for the allied disciplines in Family and Consumer Sciences. The AAFCS Body of Knowledge Model demonstrates how each allied discipline contributes to the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. The interactive Body of Knowledge Model is social and cultural in orientation and does not impinge on discipline specific standards for pre-professional training, research, and teaching.

American Dietetic Association has granted accreditation to the Coordinated Program in Dietetics and developmental accreditation to the Didactic Program in Dietetics. The American Dietetic Association's Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education is the accrediting agency for education programs preparing students for careers as registered dietitians. CADE serves the public by establishing and enforcing eligibility requirements and accreditation standards that ensure the quality and continued improvement of nutrition and dietetics education programs. Programs meeting those standards are accredited by CADE. CADE is recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as a reliable authority on the quality of nutrition and dietetics education programs.

Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) has granted accreditation to the Interior Design Program. The Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design is accredited at the professional level. CIDA promotes excellence in interior design education through research and the accreditation of qualified academic programs which prepare interior designers to create interior environments for improving the quality of the human experience. CIDA is a recognized member of the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation; it is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a reliable authority on the quality of education in the field of interior design; and it is a member of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors.

National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) has granted institutional accreditation to the Interior Design Program. NASAD, the national accrediting agency for art and design and art and design-related disciplines, was established in 1944 to improve educational practices and to maintain high professional standards in art and design education. Institutional accreditation, gained only through peer review, is based on an art or design program’s demonstrated content, competence, and educational substance as applied to the preparation of art and design professionals.
