Child / Family development - Student OrganizationsUniversity Association for the Education of Young Children (UAEYC)
The purpose of this organization is to enlighten, enrich and encourage the participation of future professionals in the promotion of quality education and development of young children. Students in good standing who plan to work with young children are encouraged to join the organization. Membership in this student organization affords students the opportunity to interact with professionals in the field of early childhood education and child development and gain experience volunteering with child and family-oriented agencies and programs in the community. As members of the student chapter, members also belong to the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the Ohio chapter (OAEYC) and the local chapter (AAEYC). The purpose of this student organization is to promote the field of family and consumer sciences. Students in any are of FCS are welcome to join the organization. For more information about AAFCS, contact the faculty advisor, Dr Anne Weiner at aweiner@uakron.edu.Kappa Omicron Nu (KONu)
Students majoring in one of the areas of family and consumer sciences may be eligible to become members of Kappa Omicron Nu, the honor society for family and consumer sciences. Students who meet the criteria for membership are invited to participate in the initiation ceremony, which is held during the spring semester of each school year.
