Child Life - Undergraduate Program

Thank you for your interest in the Child Life Specialist Program at The University of Akron. We are proud of the Child Life curriculum and the related learning experiences provided at hospitals throughout the United States.

Since field placement in the hospitals are limited, we accept twelve students each year. As this is a highly competitive and demanding program, applicants need a 3.0 grade point average. In order to be formally accepted into the Child Life Program, a student must meet the following requirement:
  • Completed at least four semesters or two years of full-time equivalent college coursework
  • Completed the Child Life application
  • Submitted three letters of recommendation
  • Successfully pass the required interview
After formal acceptance into the Child Life Program, the student will sign a contract of agreement to begin the specialized course requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Development, Child Life Specialist option.

The enclosed academic program agreement, application, and other materials will detail the courses and program requirements. Comparable courses taken at The University of Akron or another college or university may be waived, if appropriate to the Child Life Program. The Application deadline is February 1st of each academic year.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call our office at 330-972-7721
