Nutrition / Dietetics - Academic Program Options To become a Registered Dietitian, a student must:
- Complete the academic requirements;
- Complete the supervised experience in dietetics practice;
- Obtain appropriate verification; and
- Pass the National Dietetic Registration Examination.
The University of Akron offers three paths to prepare students for careers in nutrition/dietetics: The Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CP) (B.S. Dietetics) is one of the only three in Ohio, and enables students to complete their required supervised practice, along with regular academic work at the undergraduate level. Students are placed in a variety of settings, including medical centers, long-term care facilities, school nutrition programs, health departments and wellness centers. Coordinated Program students are then eligible to take the national Registration Examination immediately following graduation.

The Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) (B.S. Dietetics) This program provides opportunities to obtain practical experience in nutrition/dietetics through many of the same settings used by students in the Coordinated Program. After graduation from the Didactic Program, students must apply for a Dietetic Internship before they are eligible to take the National Dietetic Registration Exam.
Accreditation is a mark of excellence.
The Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CP) is accredited and the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of The American Dietetic Association, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995.
