Sports Nutrition
Only about 10% of an athlete's day is spent on the field, on the court or in the weight room. Do you think that the other 90% of their training day matters?
We do to.
Even with the best coaching in the world, athletes cannot build something from nothing. New and stronger abilities require fuel and building blocks. It's a hard fact. We help athletes recover and grow stronger from the taxing training they endure. Their hard work should not go to waste!
Fat loss
Muscle gain
Body weight issues
Dehydration
Healthy eating on the run
Exercise-related nutrient timing
Athletic recovery
Health issues
...Athletes have serious needs and the UA Nutrition Program is here to help!
With the support of UA Athletics, Sports Nutrition Services have been growing at The University of Akron for approximately three years. Dr. Lonnie Lowery, along with graduate students and undergraduate volunteers, provide a number of services as indicated below.
- metabolic rate measurements
- nutrition-related performance testing
- computerized dietary analyses
- body composition testing
- nutritional assessments and follow-ups
- educational team lectures
- lifestyle and recovery education
- regular updates of team status for coaches
- hydration screening
- training table consults
- information and materials for coaches and Athletics staff
- comprehensive packages of the above
Sports nutrition is not just about providing needed services, it's about education. Sports nutrition students benefit from our interactions with UA Athletics, such as the Strength & Conditioning staff (above left: students learn about much-needed "in the trenches" interactions between coaches and nutrition professionals).
For more information, email Dr. Lowery at LL22@uakron.edu with your sports nutrition needs and interests!
