Teacher Education Welcome to the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Teacher Education program at The University of Akron.
Your great grandmother called it domestic sciences and your mother called it home economics, but today, family and consumer sciences education prepares teachers for the classroom of new millennium. Whether it is addressing childhood obesity, financial management, positive parenting, career decision-making, or leadership skills, the current FCS teacher's responsibility is to provide a rigorous and relevant curriculum. Through a variety of coursework, we provide you with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and disposition to share important content with students in middle schools, high schools and adult education programs.
Accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) as well as the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS), we are the largest FCS teacher education program in Ohio. We offer both undergraduate and graduate options for licensure in family and consumer sciences.
