Dr. Miller Awarded Honors of the Academy

Dr. Erin Miller was awarded the Honors of the Ohio Academy of Audiology at a cermony in Columbus on February 20, 2008. The award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the profession of audiology and to the Academy. Dr. Miller was recognized for her teaching and mentoring efforts, her advocacy, and her clinical contributions.

Dr. Miller is a past-president of OAA and she currently serves as the chair of the Governmental Affairs Coalition (GAC).

Distinguished Achievement Award

Kris English, Ph.D., will be presented with the Distinguished Achievement Award at the 2008 AudiologyNOW! Conference by the American Academy of Audiology.

She will be honored as an audiologist who is an exceptional educator in the classroom and clinic has been innovative in a combination of program development, clinical service delivery, teaching,and research. Her research in counseling has had a great impact on audiologists andhearing impaired people and their families.

Erin Miller Appointed to the AAA Board of Directors

Dr. Erin Miller has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Audiology. She is also Chair, Ohio Speech and Hearing Governmental Affairs Coalition.

Cherysse Lanns Selected Secretary of National NAFDA

Cherysse Lanns, a current 2nd year NOAC student has been selected as the secretary for the national NAFDA group. Cherryse has served as the chair of publications. Congratulations!!

Ohio Magazine's 2007 Excellence in Education Award

Sharon Lesner was recognized as one of Ohio Magazine's 2007 Excellence in Education Award winners. The magazine noted that she received the American Academy of Audiology's Distinguished Achievement Award in 2007. Lesner was credited with being instrumental in the development of the Northeast Ohio Au.D. Consortium.

Dr. Sharon Lesner Honored

Dr. Sharon A. Lesner was presented with the 2007 American Academy of Audiology’s Distinguished Achievement Award for her excellence as an educator, clinical service provider, administrator, mentor, and researcher. Her vision of developing an exceptional Au.D. program was fulfilled when the Ohio Board of Regents approved a new joint clinical doctorate program. This program merged the program at the University of Akron with the programs at Kent State University to begin the Northeast Ohio AuD Consortium in 2001.

NOAC Awarded Excellence in Education Award By AFA

NOAC was awarded the Excellence in Education Award by the Audiology Foundation of America. The Award was presented by Dr. Kenneth Lauder, Board President of AFA, at the 2006 Convention of the Academy of Doctors of Audiology. The professionalism of the NOAC program was cited as a particular strength. The Excellence in Education Award is the highest award given by the Audiology Foundation of America. Shown receiving the award are Dr. Lauder, Dr. Sandridge of The Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Lesner, and Susan Paarlberg, Excutive Director of the Audiology Foundation of America.

Fifth Annual White Coat Ceremony

The Fifth Annual NOAC White Coat Ceremony was held on August 24th at the Martin University Center on the campus of The University of Akron. A total of 19 new NOAC students of the Class of 2011 were welcomed and coated.

Speakers included Dr. Craig Newman of the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Eric Hagberg from the Audiology Foundation of America, Dr. James Lynn the interim Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts of The University of Akron, Dr. Lynne Rowan School Director of Kent State University, Brittany Sprouse president of NOAC NAFDA, and Dr. Sharon Lesner NOAC Coordinator. The Audiology Oath was administered by its author, Dr. James Steiger.

Kelli Wright was awarded a plaque in commemoration of her being named Outstanding Second-Year Au.D. Student by the Audiology Foundation of America.
 
   

AFA Awards Scholarship to NOAC Student

Kelli N. Wright, a second year student in the Northeast Ohio Au.D. Consortium (NOAC) who is enrolled through The University of Akron, was awarded the Audiology Foundation of America’s Outstanding Second-Year Au.D. Student Scholarship for 2007-2008. Kelli was selected from about 30 nominees who were nominated by Au.D. programs throughout the country. The award is for $4500 and is funded through a grant from the William Demant Foundation.

Brittany Sprouse Chosen as Student Representative

Brittany Sprouse, a 3rd year NOAC student, has been selected as the student member of the American Academy of Audiology's State Leaders Network.

Katie Strange Wins NAFDA Logo Contest

Katie Strange, a 3rd Year NOAC student, has won the National NAFDA logo contest for 2007. Her submission was used as the logo for the 2007 NAFDA Convention which was held in Denver Colorado. Great job Katie!

Solar Is Awarded Julie Kelly Scholarship

Nicole Solar, a forth-year NOAC student, has been chosen as the recipient of the Ohio Academy of Audiology Julie Kelly Memorial Audiology Scholarship. The $2,000 scholarship is for the 2007-2008 academic year. Nicole is currently at the Cleveland Clinic. She plans on pursuing her Ph.D.

Team NOAC

NOAC students Michelle Hu, Kristina Petratis,Jennifer Kazuka, Amy Murphy, and Connie Miller participated in the Race for the Cure. The event was held in Cleveland on October 14, 2006. Team NOAC raised $860 for breast cancer research. Team NOAC members who are not pictured include Tammy Waybright and Julie Vogt.
