Post Baccalaureate Requirements for SLP Program Non-Major Applicants
Students from other majors must complete coursework in speech-language pathology, audiology, and speech and hearing science to be considered for the graduate program. The list of courses required at UA appears below. Course are offered once a year.
Fall Semester
- 7700:210 Introduction to Clinical Phonetics- 4 credits
- 7700:230 Language Science Acquisition- 4 credits
- 7700:235 Intro to Audiology- 4 credits
- 7700:265 Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Hearing Mechanisms- 3 credits
- 7700:266 Anatomy and Physiology Lab- 1 credit
Spring Semester
- 7700:215 Introduction to Hearing and Speech Science- 4 credits
- Audiologic Rehabilitation (Prerequisite: 7700:235)- 3 credits
- 7700:250 Observation and Clinical Methods- 3 credits
- 7700:330 Language Disorders (Prerequisite 7700:230)- 4 credits
- 7700:321 Articulatory and Phonological Disorders (Prerequisite 7700:210)- 4 credits

1. Mathematics:
- At least one course in the college-level mathematics (e.g., mathematics, statistics, math related computer courses). Remedial math courses do not count; nor do research methodology courses which contain a small portion of statistics. A course in statistics is strongly recommended.
2. Natural Science:
- At least two courses in the sciences, with at least one in biological sciences (e.g., general human anatomy, physiology, biology, zoology microbiology, etc.) and one in physical sciences (e.g. chemistry, physics, geology, astronomy, etc.)
3. Behavioral/Social Science Coursework:
- One course in behavioral and/or social sciences. (Include courses which pertain to understanding normal and abnormal human behavior, development across the life span, social interaction, and/or issues of culturally diverse populations. Typical categories of courses which may be included in this area include psychology, sociology, gerontology, etc.
