The Virginia E. Wilson Assistive Listening Device Center

The Wilson Assistive Listening Device Room

One of the highlights of the School's new quarters in the Polsky Building is the Virginia E. Wilson Assistive Listening Device Center. The Center has state of the art assistive listening devices displayed in a home-like setting so that individuals with hearing impairments can experiment with their usage. In addition, loaner devices can be taken by individuals in order to assess the degree of benefit that they provide.

The Center also has excellent audio and visual equipment so that hearing aid fittings, audiological rehabilitation assessments, and audiologic rehabilitation treatment can be provided. The Center is also the site of the Hearing Aid Orientation programs (HOP) that are offered by the Audiology Clinic.

The Center was made possible by a donation from Mrs. Virginia E. Wilson. Mrs. Wilson is an attorney and the wife of the late president of Roadway Express, J. Robert Wilson. Mrs. Wilson was appointed in 1992 to the State of Ohio Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Licensure Board, she is an outspoken advocate for implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and she has endowed the Virginia E. Wilson Fellowship for Doctoral students in Audiology at The University of Akron.
