The School of Social Work is dedicated to preparing students for professional social work practice. We offer an undergraduate program leading to the B.A.S.W. and a graduate program leading to the M.S.W. degree. Both programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

The profession of social work is concerned with restoring, preserving, and enhancing the well-being of individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and the larger society. Social workers practice in a wide variety of settings, including agencies offering services in child welfare, family services, health, mental health, chemical dependency, retardation, victim services, corrections, among many others. Social workers also are employed at every organizational level. With this in mind, the School of Social Work offers an undergraduate program that prepares students for generalist practice. The curriculum provides students with a set of knowledge, skills and values that can be applied across settings with a variety of clients.

Part of the program's focus is on empowering families, individuals and communities. Students learn effective assessment and intervention skills, economics, politics, and the ways in which people can be better connected with social systems. The diversity of the preparation reflects the complexity of the issues with which social work is concerned. Coursework is supplemented with field internships, a vital part of every social work student's education. Through an extensive field practicum program, students are placed with area social service agencies where classroom learning can be enhanced with hands-on practice under the supervision of experienced social work professionals.

Program is designed to prepare students for advanced level professional practice in Social Work. The program provides a rigorous intellectual base, an opportunity for effective skill development, and an educational perspective that views human diversity as desirable and enriching to society.

Beyond providing a quality education, the School of Social Work is also known for the warmth of its faculty and staff members, and our commitment to students. All are committed to assisting potential students in all phases of their pursuit of a social work degree. Faculty are available on site or at regularly scheduled office hours.
