After successfully completing the requirements for this program, and after being recommended by faculty of Summit College, a student will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Medical Assisting Technology

What does a medical assistant do?

As a medical assistant, you will be the the physician's "right arm".

Administrative Duties

  • scheduling appointments and answering phones
  • creating and maintaining patient medical records
  • handling billing, bookkeeping, and insurance processing
  • performing medical transcription

Clinical Duties:

  • assisting the doctor during examinations
  • performing diagnostic tests
  • drawing blood samples for testing
  • preparing and administering medications as directed by the physician, and following state laws for invasive procedures
