Akron Early College High School is a new approach to high school. Students earn a high school diploma and an associate’s degree at the same time!
Classes are taught at The University of Akron by a combination of high school teachers and college professors. The program is geared to students who have not traditionally sought higher education. AECHS is for first-generation college applicants.
Best of all, AECHS is free of charge to any eligible Akron Public Schools student!

Expectations:
- Maintain a 93% attendance rate
- Maintain a C or better in all academic courses
- Participate in intervention strategies for high school graduation
- Complete all district and state requirements for high school graduation
- Pass the Ohio Graduation Test during the 10th grade
- Take the COMPASS exam given by The University of Akron
- Demonstrate respect for all staff and administrators
- Read and follow all academic and code of behavior rules established by the Akron Early College High School, Akron Public Schools and The University of Akron
- Follow the Akron Early College High School calendar, which follows The University of Akron school calendar
Requirements:
- Obtain parental consent and complete the student application
- Provide your own transportation
- Possess a desire to receive an associate’s degree
- Attend information sessions
- Adhere to the student contract requirements
