Today’s Scholars - Tomorrow’s Leaders

Akron Early College High School is a new approach to high school. Students earn a high school diploma and an associate’s degree at the same time!

Classes are taught at The University of Akron by a combination of high school teachers and college professors. The program is geared to students who have not traditionally sought higher education. AECHS is for first-generation college applicants.

Best of all, AECHS is free of charge to any eligible Akron Public Schools student!

Benefits:

  • Earn a high school diploma
  • Receive up to 60 semester hours of college credit toward an associate’s degree while still in high school
  • Connect with counseling services to prepare and support you
  • Attend high school on The University of Akron campus
  • Connect with high school teachers and college instructors as academic advisers while earning a high school diploma, attending college classes and exploring career options
  • Receive individualized coursework and career planning
  • Connect with adults at the Akron Early College High School, Akron Public Schools and The University of Akron who care about you and your success
  • Integrate career exploration and college preparation

Expectations:

  • Maintain a 93% attendance rate
  • Maintain a C or better in all academic courses
  • Participate in intervention strategies for high school graduation
  • Complete all district and state requirements for high school graduation
  • Pass the Ohio Graduation Test during the 10th grade
  • Take the COMPASS exam given by The University of Akron
  • Demonstrate respect for all staff and administrators
  • Read and follow all academic and code of behavior rules established by the Akron Early College High School, Akron Public Schools and The University of Akron
  • Follow the Akron Early College High School calendar, which follows The University of Akron school calendar

Requirements:

  • Obtain parental consent and complete the student application
  • Provide your own transportation
  • Possess a desire to receive an associate’s degree
  • Attend information sessions
  • Adhere to the student contract requirements
  • Make the most of this opportunity
