Program and Curriculum Guides

Program Mission

The mission of the Mechanical Engineering Technology Program is to provide professional, broad-based, student-centered educational
opportunities to assist a diverse student population in achieving their learning goals so that they can assist and serve society, especially Northeast Ohio. Through a variety of traditional and non-traditional learning situations, and with input from all stakeholders; provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to continuously grow and succeed within the mechanical engineering technology field with an awareness of professionalism, standards, safety, ethics, diversity, social responsibility, global issues, and the need for lifelong learning.

MET Program Educational Objectives: [Broad statements that describe the career and professional accomplishments that the MET credit program is preparing graduates to achieve during the first few years following graduation.] Graduates of the MET Program will have:


A. an appropriate level of broad-based technical expertise
B. the ability to communicate effectively
C. the ability to function appropriately in a diverse and changing business environment
D. the ability to function as a professional and a responsible person

Program Outcomes:
MET Program Student Outcomes: [Statements that describe what units of knowledge or skill students are expected to acquire from the MET credit program to prepare them to achieve the Program Educational Objectives. These are demonstrated by the student and measured by the MET Program at the time of graduation.]


The MET Program must demonstrate that students about to graduate from the MET Program have the ability to:

A.
1. use a variety of applied engineering technology knowledge and skills to identify, analyze, and solve a diverse range of complex mechanical engineering technology-related problems in the following degree areas:
a. associate degree-appropriate technical expertise (meaning an appropriate mastery of the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools necessary to deal with specifications, installation, fabrication, test, operation, maintenance, sales, or documentation of basic mechanical systems) in the following mechanical engineering technology topic areas: materials technology, mechanical laboratory, applied mechanics, kinematics, machine design, computer-aided engineering graphics and solid modeling, CNC, applied fluid power, applied thermal energy, and fundamentals of electricity;
b. bachelor degree-appropriate technical expertise (meaning an appropriate mastery of the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools necessary to apply concepts to the analysis, development, implementations, or oversight of mechanical systems and processes) in the following mechanical engineering technology topic areas: materials technology, mechanical laboratory, kinematics, statics, dynamics, strength of materials, computer-aided engineering graphics and solid modeling, machine design, applied fluid power, applied thermal energy, electrical power, electronics, manufacturing processes, economics of technology, and industrial machine control;
2. conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments and apply experimental results to improve processes;
3. use current technological concepts, equipment, and software to identify, analyze, and solve mechanical engineering technology-related problems;

B.
1. write clear and effective mechanical engineering technology-related reports, proposals, and other business correspondence;
2. prepare and deliver technical oral reports and presentations;
3. prepare and interpret the appropriate graphical communications methods including engineering drawings, graphs, and charts;

C.
1. apply current knowledge and adapt to emerging applications of mathematics, physical science, and mechanical engineering technology;
2. apply creativity in the design of systems, components, or processes;
3. work individually and function effectively on teams and to be able to multitask;
4. have skills in project management;
5. appreciate the need for lifelong learning;
6. understand the importance of diversity in the workplace, social responsibility, and global issues;

D.
1. demonstrate a knowledge of, and an appreciation for, and a commitment to the following topics: professionalism, codes and standards, safety, ethics, quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement;
2. appreciate the value of professional society membership and career networking;
3. appreciate the value of active community service.

This program is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology TAC/ABET. Graduates of the Mechanical Engineering Technology program will work with engineers in developing, manufacturing, testing and servicing mechanical components, equipment and systems.
