About Summit College

Summit College and The University of Akron, a publicly assisted Division I metropolitan institution, strives to develop enlightened members of society. The University offers comprehensive programs of instruction from associate to doctoral levels; pursues a vigorous agenda of research in the arts, sciences and professions; and provides ongoing service to the community. It offers undergraduate students a choice of more than two hundred majors and area of study leading to associate and bachelor's degrees, including the only accredited Fire Protection Technology degree in the State of Ohio and the ONLY Emergency Management bachelor of science degree in the State of Ohio and one of less than ten in the country. In fact, it is the ONLY Accredited Emergency Management degree program in the United States.

About the Center

The Training Center for Fire and Hazardous Materials brings The University of Akron's Summit College, government and industry together into one comprehensive regional center to integrate educational programs, fire and hazardous materials training and other related applications of fire and safety technology. The Center coordinates seminars and workshops presented by federal, state and local agencies and other related organizations. Training in all phases of hazardous materials containment, industrial fire brigade response and suppression, confined space entry, trench rescue and first aid. In addition, emergency management contingency planning and domestic terrorism preparedness have recently been included.

Despite being the second most active certified fire charter in Ohio, second only to the Ohio Fire Academy , the UA's Training Center for Fire and Hazardous Materials is always looking for ways to provide more training to more students, fire departments, and businesses. We are pleased to announce our latest partnership: the Medina County Career Center. Together, the Medina County Career Center and the University of Akron Training Center for Fire and Hazardous Materials plan to offer more comprehensive training throughout Medina, Summit, and other surrounding counties. Please find a list of more jointly offered courses on the links below!
