Department of Public Service Technology
The Department of Public Service Technology offers a wide variety of programs in Community Services, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Protection and Early Childhood Technology. Programs in Emergency Management (BS) and Fire Protection (AAS) are nationally accredited. The Paralegal Studies program has submitted application to the American Bar Association to be recognized as an ABA approved program which will further enhance its attractiveness to employers. It has also established articulations with other institutions for transferability of course work to established BS programs in Paralegal Studies.
The Fire/Medic option in the new Emergency Medical Services associate program is in response to a growing demand from emergency service providers. The Early Childhood program has developed seamless pathways to the 4-year bachelor’s degree in child development/education. Collaborative partnerships with Akron Public schools and community childcare centers assist in the recruitment of students and employees who need additional certifications and training.
Many courses in the various program areas are offered on-line and through distance learning venues.
