Who needs sleep? YOU DO! Staying healthy on campus

Avoiding the Freshman 15

  • The average freshman college gains 15 pounds during their first year of college.

  • Park farther from your classes than necessary. You need the exercise.

  • When it comes to food, bigger is not better. Portions should be approximately the size of your fist.

  • Stay active. Utilize the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. If you plan accordingly, you will have time to squeeze exercise into your busy schedule.

  • Avoid vending machine food and all-you-can-eat buffets.

  • Eat a balanced diet. Click here to see how many calories you really need.

  • Participate in an Intramural sport! From flag football to dodgeball, there's a sport for everyone!

Naptime isn't just for kindergarteners!

  • Lack of sleep may cause you to have trouble concentrating and remembering.

  • Take naps to recharge.

  • Set a routine for sleep - go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.

  • Stop exercising a minimum of 2 hours before bedtime. Your body needs time to relax.

  • Avoid caffeinated beverages, alcohol, and nicotine before bedtime.
