Career Testing Tests are not magic - they can help you in the often difficult process of making long term career decisions but will seldom provide a complete answer. Our approach here at the Center is to integrate tests with expert career counseling so that you make informed decisions about your career. The University's Testing Services maintains a large number of tests for helping students make career decisions. In order to know which tests would be of most help you must first see one of the psychologists in the Counseling Center. They will discuss your concerns with you and make recommendations for tests. The tests are can be administered in the Testing Services by appointment or you can take some of them on any web-enabled computer. When all your tests are back they will be placed in your file and your psychologist will go over all the information with you. Some of the tests that students use for career testing include: Strong Interest Inventory
The Strong Interest Inventory has been used for many years and consists of 317 questions. It is helpful for discerning possible occupations that might interest you. It has been updated recently to a new "college" version, and is now administered by computer. Results can be available immediatly. Though we have dozens of different career tests, the Strong remains one of the most popular.
System of Interactive Guidance and Information (SIGI)
SIGI is not a paper and pencil test, but a career system with which you interact over a period of time. The advantage to a computer program such as SIGI is that unlike a test which is a one shot deal, SIGI allows you to refine your responses as you gather more information. SIGI is available over the web by clicking here. |
