Short Gambling Questionnaire Review the following list and note those which pertain to you
- Are you preoccupied with gambling (e.g., preoccupied with reliving past gambling experiences, handicapping or planning the next venture, or thinking of ways to get money with which to gamble?
- Do you need to gamble with increasing amounts of money in order to achieve the desired excitement?
- Have you had repeated unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back, or stop gambling?
- Are you restless or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop gambling?
- Is gambling a way of escaping from problems or of relieving an unpleasant mode (such as feelings of helplessness, guilt, anxiety, or depression)?
- After losing money, do you often return another day to get even (called "chasing" ones losses)?
- Do you lie to family members or others to conceal the extent of involvement with gambling?
- Have you committed illegal acts such as forgery, fraud, theft to finance gambling?
- Has gambling jeopardized or caused you to lose a significant relationship, job, or educational or career opportunity?
- Have you ever relied on others to provide money to relieve a desperate financial situation caused by gambling?
If you checked one or more of these items, you may want to consider seeing one of the staff at the Counseling, Testing and Career Center. Your gambling may be harming you. If you checked five of the items, you are at significant risk of being a pathological gambler. The Counseling, Testing and Career Center is a complete psychological services center at The University of Akron.
