Learning Disorder Assessments If you are having learning problems at The University of Akron, you may see a psychologist at the Counseling, Testing and Career Center to ascertain the nature of your problems. Testing is available to assess for a learning disorder. A learning disorder is a specific weakness in academic ability that precludes the student from access to an education at the University of Akron. For example, a student who reads very slowly and spells poorly might do so because of a reading disorder, and be unable to complete tests without accommodations.
Whether the problem is a learning disorder, anxiety, or academic skills, every effort is made to help students succeed at the University. Many times students with learning disorders are also referred to the Speech and Hearing Center and/or outside specialists such as optometrists, audiologists, or physicians. We can help with counseling, academic skills training, and referral to The University of Akron's Office of Accessibility
To discuss your learning problems with a psychologist call the Counseling, Testing and Career Center at 330-972-7082 to make an appointment. There is a $100 fee for a complete learning disorder assessment which offsets our cost for materials. |
