This year’s Polymers Appreciation Day for Alumni & Industry was a wonderful way to honor the faculty, alumni, and students who have contributed to the success of the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering since its founding in 1988.
Thank you to this year’s sponsors for making these events possible: Lubrizol, Medtronic, Renner Kenner, The University of Akron Research Foundation, Vortechs Group, and Tekcapital.
So many of our students go on to have fascinating and impactful careers. One of them is Dr. Baris Yalcin, an alumnus who was part of the team that facilitated the opening of the National Polymer Innovation Center. Today, Yalcin works in the Global Packaging R&D group for the Coca Cola Company. Recently he told CPSPE all about his experience at the college and how he hopes to make a difference in his new career.
Dr. Yu Zhu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Polymer Science, and has been a member of our faculty since 2012. He has studied in Germany and in the United States, and has achieved numerous publications as well as four patents. We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Zhu about his career at The University of Akron’s College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering.
Former REU intern Marcos Pantoja is currently studying to earn his doctorate in Polymer Engineering under Dr. Kevin Cavicchi. He began his journey at UA in the fall of 2014, and now he is sharing his experiences with us. Read more about Marcos and his academic journey in CPSPE.
