Words of Wisdom for Incoming Students

Get involved - and get involved EARLY. Don't wait until your junior or senior year to join a student organization or play an intramural sport. The longer
you wait, the less you will be able to accomplish.

Plans after UA

I hope to travel and volunteer in the area before pursuing a career in either sports management or in the non-profit sector.

Words of Wisdom for Incoming Students

Take advantage of opportunities given to you and to push yourself out of your comfort zone. When it comes to opportunities, it is crucial to take advantage of them. The great thing about opportunities is that you do not know where they may lead you to in the future and what kinds of doors may open from them. It is so important to take full advantage of these opportunities, and attending Akron will no doubt provide one with many different opportunities. To accompany this, it is incredibly important to push yourself out of your comfort zone. This can come with following through with opportunities that may not be in your comfort zone. Pushing oneself, along with having the appropriate amount of support, allows for personal growth, and helps you develop as a person. College is the ideal time to experiment and try out new experiences, and I truly believe it is something that will help one learn about themselves and discover new passions. It will allow for a more complete college experience.

Plans after UA

I will be attending Kent State University in the fall for their master's program in Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs. I will also be working as a Hall Director at Baldwin Wallace University.

Words of Wisdom for Incoming Students

Your college years go by way too fast for you to sit back and wait to get involved. Find your niche right off the bat and get as involved as you can so that your experiences and networking can open doors for you down the road. Just enjoy the journey while you can!

Plans after UA

My post graduation plans are to have an established career in the Marketing Field for a company in the sports industry and eventually go back to school to get my MBA. I want to move out of Ohio and go to the southeastern territory of the U.S. I also plan on staying involved with the game of golf and any sort of philanthropic efforts that relate to it.

GET INVOLVED!!!  There are so many groups and organizations available at UA that everyone can find one that they enjoy.  Try joining multiple groups early on, and be sure to stick with a few for the duration of your UA career.  Also, don’t be scared to climb the rock wall before you graduate!  If you don’t try it at least once then you will definitely regret it.

Plans after UA

After graduation I will be attending the University Of Toledo College Of Medicine, starting this August.  I will be graduating from there in 2018, with a specialty to be determined.  Also, in June of 2015 I will be getting married to Brittany Trout, who I met at UA during my freshman year.

To get involved in something! Search around and find that group of people that you feel comfortable with! It will make your college career so much better! If it wasn't for Sigma Nu I don't know what my college career would have been, and really I wouldn't want to know! There is a group out there for everyone, you just need to find it!

Plans after UA

I plan on getting my master degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs. As of where I will be attending, I am not sure at this moment.

Stay connected with high school friends. Their friendship is invaluable and you most likely spent a good portion of your life growing up with them and you won't realize just how important they are until you all go your separate ways. When you graduate college, the same goes for your college friends! Enjoy every moment!

Plans after UA

After graduation I will be attending Northeast Ohio Medical University's College of Pharmacy beginning in the fall of this year. After another 4 years of school (yikes) I hope to work as a clinical pharmacist.

Words of Wisdom for Incoming Students

take chances and don't ever be satisfied by doing just enough to 'just get by'. Stand out in the classroom as an overachiever because your teachers and peers will remember you for that. Also, don't allow yourself to stop going after a dream of yours just because someone tells you it is not possible. Keep chasing your dreams and when you're rounding the end of the 'finish line' at Akron,
you'll be happy you never stopped chasing them.

Plans after UA

After graduation, I plan on finding a job to work as a Spanish teacher anywhere from Pre-K through 12th grade. I would like to start out working in northeast Ohio, preferrably in an elementary or middle school setting.
