Summit College

The Akron/Summit Convention and Visitors Bureau Donald L. Patterson Scholarship in Hospitality Management
The Akron/Summit Convention and Visitors Bureau Donald L. Patterson Scholarship in Hospitality Management was created in 2003 in recognition and celebration of the hospitality industry. The scholarship will assist and encourage students pursuing opportunities in the hospitality management industry. It will be awarded annually to a student in the Hospitality Management program at The University of Akron.

The Chef Richard W. Alford Scholarship Fund
The Chef Richard W. Alford Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 to provide assistance for students in the Hospitality Management program at The University of Akron. Chef Richard W. Alford, Certified Culinary Educator and Certified Executive Chef, graduated in 1974 with an Associate degree in Food Service Management and in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Education from The University of Akron. He received numerous awards for his accomplishments both as an educator and culinary expert. This scholarship fund was established in recognition of Richard’s great service to students at The University of Akron. This scholarship is to be presented annually to one outstanding student in culinary arts. Scholarship recipients are to be selected by the faculty of the College.

The American Society for Industrial Security Canton/Akron Chapter 123 Scholarship
Established in 1994 this scholarship is intended to encourage and support students intending to pursue a career in industrial security. The Akron/Canton Chapter 123 of the American Society for Industrial Security, in recognition of the importance of education, have designated their scholarship assistance be used primarily for four-year students in political science, criminal justice majors, with secondary consideration given to students in the two-year criminal justice program.

Recipients are to have a 3.0 grade point average in their declared major and a 2.5 grade point average overall. Grants may be used for tuition, books or fees. The University scholarship committee will select recipients in conjunction with the Office of Student Financial Aid.

The David Bruce Auburn Scholarship
This endowed fund was established by the Schaefer Foundation in 1968 in honor of David Bruce Auburn, the youngest child of Dr. Norman P. and the late Kay M. Auburn. It is supported further by the Auburn family. Endowed income is used for scholarship purposes for deserving students from the state of Ohio enrolled in The University of Akron Summit College, as determined by the University Scholarship Committee.

The Bluecoats Inc. of Summit County Scholarship
In keeping with a traditional mission of support for the fire protection and law enforcement professions, this scholarship was established in 1990 by Bluecoats Inc. Annual awards are presented to underwrite the tuition, fees, and costs of books of promising students in both the Criminal Justice and the Fire Protection Technology programs. Recipients within The University of Akron’s Summit College are not to be receiving any form of financial aid other than this award from The University of Akron. A scholarship committee established by each of the academic programs, in cooperation with the University’s financial aid program, reviews applications and selects recipients. First consideration is given to children of current full or part time (voluntary) members of the fire and police departments within Summit County or the Summit County Sheriff’s Department who meet the established criteria. The ideal candidate will have the personal qualities and depth of commitment characteristic of the exceptional safety officer. The awards will be distributed to students who have successfully completed the first year of the program with a minimum of a 2.50 grade point average. In the event none of the candidates is the son or daughter of a member of the safety forces, the award will be presented to the person(s) best qualified.

The Jeffrey R. Brashares Endowed Scholarship
The Jeffrey R. Brashares Endowed Scholarship was created through the generosity of Mr. Jeffrey R. Brashares, President of Rail Van, Inc. Mr. Brashares, class of 1972, has long recognized the importance of higher education. This scholarship represents Mr. Brashares' commitment to the success of students pursuing advanced studies in logistics as well as his commitment to the Community and Technical College. The scholarship is to be awarded to a student majoring in Transportation and who maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.25. The selection of the student will be determined by the Dean of Summit College and Mr. Jeffrey R. Brashares.

The Business Machines Royalty Fund
Established in 1979 by Joan E. Warner, Class of 1966 and professor emeritus of office administration, from royalties from the sale of her book Business Calculator Operations, this fund is used to underwrite textbooks and supplies and for incentive awards for students judged outstanding in business machine class.

The Carl L. Campbell, Sr. Endowed Memorial Scholarship in Surveying
Carl L. Campbell, a professional engineer and surveyor in the State of Ohio, was a 30-year employee of the State of Ohio Department of Transportation, holding the position of Deputy Director of Highways for Division 4 on two occasions. At his retirement from government service in 1973, he was the Expressway and Bridge Engineer for the City of Akron. In 1979, he, along with his son Bruce, founded Campbell and Associates, Inc., a consulting engineering and surveying firm that operates today with six offices in northern Ohio.

The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize undergraduate surveying students. Applicants must complete a minimum of 34 hours of classroom credit in pursuit of a career in the surveying industry. Priority will be given to students with financial need who have not previously been awarded a scholarship. A minimum of one scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded annually to a student enrolled in the Surveying and Mapping Technology degree program. Preference will also be given to employees and/or children of employees of Campbell and Associates, Inc. Selection will be made by the Department of Surveying.

The Dorothy D’Andrea Scholarships
The Dorothy D’Andrea Scholarships provide financial support for students studying for a degree in Hospitality Management with an emphasis in the culinary arts at The University of Akron Summit College. Mrs. D’Andrea is a lifelong resident of Akron and is retired after 30 years of service to Phillips Petroleum. She has traveled extensively and is committed to broadening the opportunities for young people by providing scholarship assistance.

The James A. Dougherty Endowed Scholarship in Construction Technology
The James A. Dougherty Endowed Scholarship in Construction Technology was established in memory of James A. Dougherty in 2002 by his colleagues and friends in the construction industry. Mr. Dougherty was an Akron native and a lifelong area resident who had a long and distinguished career as a labor negotiator. He served as Director of the Labor Relations Division of the Akron Builder’s Exchange for over thirty years. He was known and respected for his fairness and honesty by both labor and management. Mr. Dougherty was active in his community and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

The Associations establishing this scholarship are: AGC of Ohio, Akron Division; Labor Relations Division of Akron; Mechanical Contractors Association of Akron and the Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors of Akron-Canton-Mansfield.

The Howard M. Doutt Office Administration Scholarship
This scholarship fund was established in 1983 by Joan E. Warner, Class of 1966 and professor emeritus of office administration, in memory of Howard M. Doutt, who established the Department of Secretarial Science in 1927 and who served as department head from 1931 until his retirement in 1960. This scholarship is awarded each fall to an incoming freshman majoring in office administration or business education. Selection of the recipient is determined by the office administration faculty and the director of student financial aid.

The Four Points Sheraton Akron/Fairlawn Hospitality Management Scholarship
The Four Points Sheraton Akron/Fairlawn Hospitality Management Scholarship was created in 2003 by Rennick Andreoli, President of Fairlawn Associates Limited. This $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded yearly to a student in Hospitality Management.

The Four Points Sheraton Akron/Fairlawn is a hotel business leader in the Northeast Ohio area and operates under the highest standards of quality, service and execution.

The George Clinton and Julia Lucille Fouts Endowed Scholarship for Summit College
The George Clinton and Julia Lucille Fouts Endowed Scholarship for Summit College was established in August 2005 by Mrs. Julia Lucille Fouts.

The purpose of the George Clinton and Julia Lucille Fouts Endowed Scholarship for Summit College is to provide tuition assistance to full-time student enrolled in Summit College. The recipient must have demonstrated financial need and have a G.P.A. of at least 2.5. The scholarship shall be renewable while the student remains enrolled in Summit College, provided that the requirements outlined above are maintained. Students shall be selected by the Office of Student Financial Aid.

The Byron Fry Hospitality Management Award by the Sheraton Suites-Akron Cuyahoga Falls
The Byron Fry Hospitality Management Award was established in 2002 by the Board of Directors of the Riverside Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation. This $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded yearly to a student in Hospitality Management.

Byron Fry was an Akron native and a Naval Aviator and Flight Instructor who served in World War II and subsequently in the U.S. Naval Reserve, retiring as a Navy Captain. His first business venture was the G.I. Cab Company which employed veterans returning from the war. He then broadened his business interests to include the Nob Hill Company and Car Lease, Inc., the first car leasing company in Ohio. His later business years were devoted to the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ohio and the partnership of the Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls. Described by his colleagues and friends as an honorable, fair workaholic who loved to tinker mechanically, Mr. Fry was always lending a helping hand to those in need or to assist in launching the next adventurous idea.

The Giant Eagle Scholarship in Hospitality Management
The Giant Eagle Scholarship in Hospitality Management was created in 2002. This $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded yearly to a student in Hospitality Management.

GOJO Industries' Jerome Lippman Designated Scholarship at Summit College of The University of Akron
The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding, nontraditional student pursuing a degree at Summit College of The University of Akron.

GOJO Industries has established a scholarship award in honor of Jerome Lippman, founder and Chairman of the Board, in recognition of his lifelong encouragement of higher education, commitment to lifelong learning, and his contributions to the health sciences and business communities of Akron.

The scholarship is administered by and conferred under the auspices of the ISSA Foundation (International Sanitary Supply Association Foundation). The scholarship will be awarded to University of Akron students preparing for careers in business and/or health services and enrolled in Summit College of The University of Akron. The selection of recipients will take place as follows: The Office of Student Financial Aid will prescreen candidates based on financial need and academic performance eligibility criteria and submit three eligible candidates to the ISSA Foundation before June 1st of each year. ISSA Foundation makes the final decision at its June board meeting.

The Granges of Summit County Scholarship
This scholarship, established in 1982 by the Granges of Summit County, is offered annually to one undergraduate student enrolled in the Handicapped Services Interpreting for the Deaf curriculum. This award will be available to the selected student for the duration of his or her career as a student in Services for Students with Disabilities. The recipient must have, and maintain, a minimum of a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. The recipient will be selected by a committee formed within Services for Students with Disabilities, in cooperation with the director of student financial aid, with final approval by the Deaf Committee of the Granges of Summit County. First consideration will be given to a Grange person.

The Hilton Akron/Fairlawn Hospitality Management Scholarship
The Hilton Akron/Fairlawn Hospitality Management Scholarship was created in 2003 by Rennick Andreoli, President of Fairlawn Associates Limited. This $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded yearly to a student in Hospitality Management.

The Hilton Akron/Fairlawn is a hotel business leader in the Northeast Ohio area and operates under the highest standards of quality, service and execution.

The Hospitality Management Endowed Scholarship
The Hospitality Management Endowed Scholarship was created through the generosity of faculty, alumni, and friends. Each year the scholarship is to be awarded to an incoming student majoring in Hospitality Management. The recipient will be awarded an amount determined by the Department of Student Financial Aid. The selection of the recipient will be determined by the Scholarship Committee and the Department of Hospitality Management.

The Hyde Park Restaurant Group Scholarship in Hospitality Management
The Hyde Park Restaurant Group Scholarship in Hospitality Management was created in 2002. This $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded yearly to a student in Hospitality Management. The Hyde Park Restaurant Group has been in existence since 1988 and operates under the highest standards of quality and execution. Restaurants operated by Hyde Park include the Hyde Park Grille, The Metropolitan Café, Blake’s Seafood Restaurant, and Sal and Angelo’s Grille. Hyde Park Restaurants have been rated as some of the best in the nation. Hyde Park Grille is rated as one of the top five best steakhouses in America and the best steakhouse in Ohio.

The William P. Kannel Scholarship Fund
The William P. Kannel Scholarship Fund was established in 1989 in recognition of Judge Kannel’s 42 years of service at the County of Summit Juvenile Court and the community service that he and Mrs. Kannel provided during the past 50 years. Contributions to the scholarship fund were made by corporations, community groups, individuals, and the Kannel family. The endowed scholarship provides tuition assistance to a criminal justice major of sophomore standing who has a minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average and is currently working full or part time in a youth related criminal justice field. Selection of the recipient is to be determined by the criminal justice faculty in consultation with the William P. Kannel family or its designee.

The Edwin J. and Ruth L. Klika Scholarship Fund in Summit College
Ruth Klika established this scholarship fund to encourage University of Akron students to continue their education and to assist these students in meeting the financial demands associated with furthering their education. Income from this endowed fund shall be used to provide annual scholarship awards to students from the University’s Summit College. One scholarship recipient shall be identified each year. The recipient shall have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50 and have demonstrated financial need. The scholarship awards are to be used toward recipients’ tuition, fees, or books. The scholarship recipients shall be selected by the University Scholarship Committee.

The Lentini Family Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Lentini Family Memorial Scholarship Fund is an endowed fund, established in 1974 by family and friends of the Lentini Family. Earnings from the endowed fund are used for scholarship purposes for deserving full-time second year Criminal Justice majors enrolled in Summit College of The University of Akron. Selection, based on academic achievement, is determined by a selection committee consisting of the Dean of Summit College, a selected member of the faculty and a selected member of the Joseph R. Lentini family. The fund is administered by The University of Akron Foundation. Contributions to the fund are accepted from interested donors.

The Robert W. Little Endowed Scholarship Fund for Summit College
The Robert W. Little Endowed Scholarship Fund for Summit College was established to meet the needs of students who are enrolled in The University of Akron’s Summit College, which serves students who are interested in specific career opportunities and desire to enter the workforce as quickly as possible. Many of these non-traditional students have financial needs which may impede their future success in the College. With The Robert W. Little Endowed Scholarship Fund for Summit College, and the matching gift from the GAR Foundation, non-traditional students with academic merit and financial need can be assisted.

Individuals eligible for The Robert W. Little Endowed Scholarship Fund for Summit College must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours and have a 3.0 grade point average within Summit College. Scholarship awards will be based on academic merit and financial need and will be determined by individuals appointed within the Summit College. A student may apply in writing once a semester, and as many as three times a year.

The Marc A. Martter Scholarship in Construction Technology
The Marc A. Martter Scholarship in Construction Technology was established in 2003. Marc Martter is a 1973 graduate of the College of Education. His son and brother are also graduates of the University. Mr. Martter is a successful businessman in the construction industry and wishes to assist students at the University studying in this field.

The scholarship shall be awarded to a full-time student pursuing a four-year degree in construction technology. The student must maintain a 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need. The recipient must also be American-born.

The Shirley Ross Nixon Scholarship
The Shirley Ross Nixon Scholarship was established in 2005 by G. Gary and Shirley Ross Nixon. Shirley graduated from The University of Akron in 1966, and G. Gary Nixon received his degree in engineering from the University in 1965. Shirley is a member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity, and has maintained strong ties to her fraternity and to her University. Shirley worked while a student and had a successful sales career following graduation.

The Oriana House/ Judge Ted Schneiderman Endowed Human Services Scholarship
The Oriana House/Judge Ted Schneiderman Endowed Human Services Scholarship was created in 2005. Oriana House is a nonprofit agency serving Summit County with a mission of providing quality and humane chemical dependency treatment and community corrections services to clients while contributing to safer communities.

The scholarship will be awarded annually to a student in Summit College who is pursuing a four-year degree in one of three fields: Political Science/Criminal Justice, Sociology/Corrections, or Community Service Technology – Alcohol Services. The award will rotate such that a student is selected from each field at least once every three years. The recipient must have a GPA of 2.5 or above and will be chosen by a committee in the Summit College in conjunction with Financial Aid.

The Jacqueline C. Paul Memorial Scholarship
The Jacqueline C. Paul Memorial Scholarship was established through the generosity of Mr. Timothy P. Colelli. Jacqueline Paul, was an outstanding graduate of the Business Management Technology Program in the Community and Technical College at The University of Akron in 1985. In honor of Jacqueline Paul's lifelong ambition to contribute back to her family, friends, and the community through business education, especially by demonstrating the role ethics and morality play in the business world, this memorial scholarship will be awarded annually to second-year students majoring in Business Management Technology in Summit College. The recipients must be enrolled full time; have a minimum grade point average of 3.00; be a first-generation college student; have a demonstrated financial need; and must be able to demonstrate community involvement in their respective community. Preference will be given to female students. The Dean of Summit College and the Department Chair of the Business Management Technology Program will determine the scholarship recipients.

The William M. Petry Memorial Scholarship Fund
This endowed memorial scholarship fund was established in 1974 by family and friends of the late William M. Petry, revered educator and administrator at The University of Akron, who was instrumental in founding the University’s Community and Technical College and served with distinction as its Dean from 1964 until his death in 1974. Income from this memorial fund is used to provide scholarships for deserving students in the College. The amounts of such scholarship awards and the recipients thereof are determined by a person designated by the Petry family.

The Dr. Velma Pomrenke Student Assistance Fund
The Dr. Velma Pomrenke Student Assistance Fund was established by Dr. Pomrenke in 1997 for the benefit of students enrolled in the Community and Technical College, now called Summit College. It is Dr. Pomrenke’s strong belief that many people at times need immediate help to succeed. She further believes that education is the key to a better quality of life. The fund was created to meet the needs of students who require special support in pursuing their degree. The Dr. Velma Pomrenke Student Assistance Fund will provide for emergency student loans, purchase of textbooks, tutoring, or technology. The Dr. Velma Pomrenke Student Assistance Fund will also be used by the Dean of Summit College in meeting urgent student needs as determined on an individual basis.

The Professional Secretaries International Scholarships
The Marjorie Dull Scholarship
The Tire Town Chapter of Professional Secretaries International established this scholarship fund in 1977 in honor of Marjorie Dull, CPS, 1977 International Secretary of the Year. The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student in secretarial science.

The Louise Gamble Scholarship
The Louise Gamble annual scholarship in the amount of fees and books is awarded to an outstanding student in secretarial science.

Geraldine White Memorial Trust
Geraldine White was a charter member of Tire Town Chapter of PSI. Her service began in 1946 as Board Treasurer, and she was chairperson or served on many committees over the years. She graduated from Purdue University. She retired from the Trust Department of National Bank of Akron where she served as secretary to R. C. Parish, Vice President and Trust Officer.

The Dr. Darius Rastomji Memorial Scholarship in Summit College
The Dr. Darius Rastomji Memorial Scholarship in Business Technology was created in 2003 by friends and colleagues of Professor Rastomji. Professor Rastomji was a faculty member in Summit College who taught computer information systems. He began his teaching career at The University of Akron in 1980. In 1997, he became the Associate Chair of Business Technology.

Dr. Rastomji received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of Pune, Pune, India. He earned an A.A.S.S. degree in Computer Information Systems, a M.S. Ed., and a Ph.D. in Education at The University of Akron. He was an accomplished violinist who studied at the Royal School of Music in London and the Rubin Academy of Music in Tel Aviv.

The Dr. Darius Rastomji Memorial Scholarship in Business Technology will recognize an undergraduate student in the Computer Information Systems program within Summit College. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.5, have completed at least 24 credit hours (excluding transfer credit) and must be returning to Summit College as a full-time student for the following semester. The recipient will be chosen by a committee within Summit College in conjunction with Financial Aid.

The Rockne’s Inc. Scholarship in Hospitality Management
The Rockne’s Inc. Scholarship in Hospitality Management was created in 2002 by the management and owners of Rockne’s. This $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded yearly to a student in Hospitality Management. Rockne’s has been in existence since 1975 and operates under the highest standards of quality and execution.

The Alexander J. Rohr Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Alexander J. Rohr Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 by the family and friends in loving memory of Alex Rohr who was a student at The University of Akron and had interest in a career in law enforcement. Endowment income is available for students enrolled in the Police Academy, who have demonstrated financial need. Recipients will be selected by members of Alex Rohr’s family based on recommendations by the Office of Student Financial Aid. The funds may be used for tuition, fees or to purchase books for the classes.

The Dr. Darius Rastomji Memorial Scholarship in Summit College
The Dr. Darius Rastomji Memorial Scholarship in Business Technology was created in 2003 by friends and colleagues of Professor Rastomji. Professor Rastomji was a faculty member in Summit College who taught computer information systems. He began his teaching career at The University of Akron in 1980. In 1997, he became the Associate Chair of Business Technology.

Dr. Rastomji received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The University of Pune, Pune, India. He earned an A.A.S.S. degree in Computer Information Systems, a M.S. The Charles T. Salem Scholarship
Charles T. ‘Charlie’ Salem was one of The University of Akron’s most beloved faculty members. His personal charm and rapport with students complemented his skill as an educator. Charlie was a poet, a composer, and a performer who made music an integral part of his classes and his life. Family, friends, faculty colleagues, and students were saddened by his untimely accidental death in October 1990. This scholarship is established as a perpetual tribute to the contributions of Charlie Salem to The University of Akron Community and Technical College. One of Charlie’s special interests in the college was the Distinguished Student program. This fund will provide annual support for one student in the program who will be selected by the Distinguished Student Committee to be the Charles T. Salem Scholar. Alternatively, the dean of the college may select an outstanding student for this designation.

The Elizabeth J. and Paul E. Stroble Endowed Scholarship for Summit College
The Elizabeth J. and Paul E. Stroble Endowed Scholarship for Summit College was established in 2005. Drs. Stroble wish to assist students pursuing a degree or program in Summit College.

Recipients must be Buchtel High School graduates who have successfully completed the Project GRAD requirements: a 93% high school attendance rate, a minimum grade point average of 2.5 in required courses, passage of all state standardized and college assessment tests, attendance at two summer institutes and graduation from high school within a four-year period.

Dr. Elizabeth J. Stroble and Dr. Paul E. Stroble both have advanced degrees and successful careers in higher education. Through their scholarship, they wish to encourage young people to continue lifelong learning, enhancing their personal and career goals.

The Summit County Safety Council Scholarship
The Summit County Safety Council Scholarship was created in 2003. This award will be provided annually to a student in Summit College who is pursuing a degree in an environmental/safety related field including but not limited to Emergency Management, Fire Prevention/Protection, or Security/Investigation. Additionally the student must be a junior or senior at the time of the award with a GPA of at least 3.0.

Three candidates shall be recommended to the Safety Council by The University of Akron Summit College faculty in conjunction with Financial Aid. The recipient will be selected after all candidates are interviewed by the Summit County Safety Council Board.

The Summit County Safety Council was established in 1949. The mission of the Council is to promote safety and prevent accidents in the workplace. Members are business professionals in the Summit County area.

The Jerry and Emily Welty Scholarship in Construction Technology
This fund was established in 1995 by Jerry and Emily Welty in commemoration of the Welty Building Corporation's fifty years of service as a leader in the construction industry. Jerry Welty, President of the Welty Building Corporation and a business and community leader, values personal honor, perseverance, enthusiasm, integrity and hard work, and the recipient must exemplify these qualities. The Jerry and Emily Welty Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student enrolled in the construction technology department who has a commitment to academics.
Special preference will be given to a child of an employee of the Welty Building Corporation who meets all other criteria.

The Dean Robert C. Weyrick Endowment
Established in 1989 and expanded 1997 by Robert C. Weyrick, the second dean of the Community and Technical College (now Summit College) at The University of Akron, The Dean Robert C. Weyrick Endowment provides scholarship support for full-time students enrolled in Associate Degree technical programs in Summit College. A 1949 graduate of The University of Akron with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Robert C. Weyrick served as dean of the Community and Technical College from 1974-1986. As dean, he recognized the importance of student scholarship support and worked to increase private scholarship support. By establishing The Dean Robert C. Weyrick Scholarship in 1989, he provided his personal support for students in the College. During Dean Weyrick’s service as dean, the Distinguished Student Program was created to recognize and assist exceptionally talented students in associate degree programs. In 1997 Dean Weyrick established The Dean Robert C. Weyrick Distinguished Student Scholarship to assist students in this program.

One-half of the available funds are for The Dean Robert C. Weyrick Scholarship, to be awarded one full-time student in any of the College’s technical degree programs. Recipients are to be selected by the Dean of Summit College in cooperation with the Office of Student Financial Aid, regardless of financial need. The award can be renewed for one additional year if the student maintains at least an overall 2.5 grade point average.

The other half will provide The Dean Robert C. Weyrick Distinguished Student Scholarship for one full-time student in the Distinguished Student Program, as selected by the Dean of Summit College in cooperation with the Office of Student Financial Aid. The award can be renewed for an additional year provided the student remains qualified for the Distinguished Student Program. In the event this program is not available, the award is to be made to an outstanding student enrolled full-time in an Associate Degree technical program in Summit College.

This endowment description supersedes and replaces the two previous descriptions for The Dean Robert C. Weyrick Scholarship and The Dean Robert C. Weyrick Distinguished Student Scholarship, established in 1989 and 1997, respectively.

The Harry Whiddon Educational Fund
Established by the Akron Automobile Club Safety Trustees in 1977, this fund honors Harry Whiddon, who served with distinction as chief of the police division of the Akron city government for 21 years and was a member of the division for 38 years. It provides tuition assistance for criminal justice majors enrolled in Summit College. Awards are made on the basis of achievement and need with preference given to students interested in and/or preparing for careers embracing traffic and pedestrian safety.

The Winking Lizard Tavern Scholarship in Hospitality Management
The Winking Lizard Tavern Scholarship in Hospitality Management was created in 2002 by the management and owners of The Winking Lizard Tavern. This $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded yearly to a student in Hospitality Management. The Winking Lizard Tavern has been in existence since 1983 and operates under the highest standards of quality and execution. Today the Winking Lizard Tavern has operations throughout Northeast Ohio.
