When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.
For this reason, The University of Akron is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.
Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.
The need for scholarships grows each year, however, as students continue to face an increased financial burden in pursuit of a college degree. In fact, 94 percent of today’s baccalaureate students borrow to pay for college – versus just 45 percent in 1993. Across the country, the average college-related debt for borrowers in the class of 2016 was $37,172; for Ohio students, that figure was $30,239.

University of Akron College of Business Administration Leadership Elevator Program
The University of Akron College of Business Administration Leadership Elevator Program was established in 2011 with a gift and five-year pledge of support from Mr. Umesh Ramakrishnan and Mr. Robert Voth.
Umesh Ramakrishnan is vice chairman of CTPartners, a premier executive search firm committed to performance, quality, and results. Drawing on a deep understanding of the human elements of leadership, Umesh integrates executive recruitment strategies with corporate goals, producing culturally compatible executives who can meet the clients’ specific challenges and achieve long-term growth. Mr. Ramakrishnan provides consultation to the boards of directors and chief executives of global corporations. He has recruited members for boards of directors, CEOs, CFOs, COOs, and other senior management positions.
Robert Voth is a managing partner of CTPartners and has completed more than 450 global assignments during his 15 years in executive search analysis. His clients cover the spectrum of global money centers, as well as regional and community banks. Many of the nation’s top money experts have relied on Mr. Voth for his experience and guidance.
The Leadership Elevator is a comprehensive orientation for MBA students. It offers professional development workshops focusing on academic excellence and professional performance above the expectation of the student.
MBA students’ preparation materials include individualized leadership competency assessments, Harvard Business School’s case studies, and a copy of the critically acclaimed business book, "There’s No Elevator to the Top," written by Umesh Ramakrishnan.
Through The University of Akron College of Business Administration Leadership Elevator Program, two students will be selected each year to receive the award. The students will be personally mentored by Umesh Ramakrishnan and Robert Voth and will receive an academic scholarship. The scholarship and award amount will be administered at the discretion of the dean of the College of Business Administration and the director of Graduate Programs.
