Today, The University of Akron seeks to improve on its role as the public research university of northern Ohio, and has set even higher goals for itself under the leadership of its 15th president, Dr. Luis M. Proenza.

The "New Landscape for Learning" construction and beautification initiative will dramatically change the physical appearance of the campus and create an environment more attractive to excellent students and faculty. The Carnegie II Research and Carnegie Teaching Academy initiatives will help the University solidify its presence in research and teaching excellence. These ventures, as well as future University of Akron-driven economic development initiatives, will help ensure the growth and re-invention of the entire region’s economy.
