PNC joins in the knowledge that a strong community is typified by access to higher education. Today, access means more than the availability of a university experience; it means communities coming together to assist with the financial needs of students.
Between May 2013 and December 31, 2013, PNC challenges alumni and friends of The University of Akron to match up to $500,000 in scholarship money the University has made available through its relationship with PNC. This one-time opportunity will create up to $1 million of support for incoming freshmen for the 2014-15 academic year through The Akron Experience Scholarship Fund.
Enrollment pressures in higher education include:
Without college savings, students must borrow and work. Many attend part time for this reason and end up dropping out. Or, full-time students who work many hours can lack the focus needed for a good start. Scholarships that help reduce work hours and debt obligation in the first year are a great way to help students attend college full time, persist, and succeed.
More than 4,000 freshmen are expected to enroll in the fall 2014 semester. Please help more of them enroll as full-time students and grant them the opportunity for success with a gift to The Akron Experience Scholarship Fund.
