Higher Learning Commission reaccreditation update
As part of its re-accreditation process, The University of Akron is performing a self-study and will host a site visit from March 3-6, 2013.
Recently, the HLC introduced five new criteria for evaluating institutions, referred to as the Gamma Version of HLC Proposed Criteria for Evaluation and Assumed Practices. Over the coming months, UA steering committee members will lead writing teams to address each of the five newly revised HLC core criteria.
The five Criteria for evaluation and their respective writing team leaders include:
► Criterion One: Mission
- Writing Team Leader: Julie Burdick
► Criterion Two: Ethical and Responsible Conduct
- Writing Team Leader: Elizabeth Reilly
► Criterion Three: Teaching and Learning – Quality, Resources, and Support
- Writing Team Leader: Stacey Moore
► Criterion Four: Teaching and Learning – Evaluation and Improvement
- Writing Team Leader: Linda Subich
► Criterion Five: Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness
- Writing Team Leader: Harvey Sterns
Supplemental to the criteria writing teams, David Cummins will lead a writing team on federal compliance.
Other steering committee members play key roles in ensuring the successful re-accreditation process:
- Karla Mugler, site visit coordination

Even if you do not have the time to serve on the writing teams themselves, you can participate in the ensuing campus discussions and draft report commentary opportunities. Information on those opportunities will be announced through the E-mail Digest.
Thank you for your support of this important process.
The Digest is sent weekdays during the fall and spring semesters to faculty and staff.
Send your news to email@example.com. The submission deadline is noon the day before distribution.
Items will be accepted for publication only when the University is directly involved in the activity through participation, sponsorship or partnership with one of its recognized organizations, colleges or departments. The University reserves the right to edit or to refuse to run any submission for any reason. The Digest is not, nor is it intended to be, a public forum or a limited public forum. Questions about the policy or any other Digest matter may be directed to Bob Kropff at ext. 7048 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Because of the volume of submissions, items will run up to three times on request – once as a new item and twice as a repeated item. We recommend that contact information appear in each announcement.
