Higher Learning Commission update
The reaccreditation is critical to the success of the University, and most importantly, our students, as it ensures that our University is eligible to receive federally based financial aid and also ensures the quality of a University of Akron degree.
The Institutional Actions Council of the HLC decided that a “Focused Visit” will occur to the university in the spring of 2015, to monitor the areas of assessment and governance. More specifically, from the HLC letter to UA President Luis M. Proenza:
- Assessment: The visit should “assure that graduate and undergraduate academic majors and the general education program have assessment processes in place that include (a) the skills and concepts be mastered, (b) the assessment methods be employed, and (c) the analysis and use of results to improve academic programs.”
- Governance: The visit should “evaluate the relationships and roles of faculty in shared institutional governance.”
