Free and open to the public.=0D=0AThomas Saving, PhD, is University Distinguished Professor of Economics, Director of the Private Enterprise Research Center, and holds the Jeff Montgomery Professorship in Economics at Texas A&amp;M University. &nbsp;He is author or co-author of numerous journal articles and four books, including two influential books on monetary theory. &nbsp;His current research emphasis is on the benefit of markets in solving the pressing issues in health care and Social Security; he is co-editor of Medicare Reform: Issues and Answers (University of Chicago Press, 1999) and co-author of The Economics of Medicare Reform (Upjohn Institute for Employment Research, 2000) and The Diagnosis and Treatment of Medicare (AEI Press, 2006).=0D=0AIn 2000, President Clinton appointed Dr. Saving as a Public Trustee of the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds; he was re-appointed Trustee by President Bush and served until 2007.&nbsp; In 2001, he was appointed by President Bush to the bipartisan Commission to Strengthen Social Security. &nbsp;Dr. Saving has testified before the US Congress many times on the economics of Medicare and Social Security.=0D=0ADr. Saving has been President of the Western Economics Association, the Southern Economics Association, and the Association of Private Enterprise Education.
