Alan N. Gent, professor emeritus of polymer physics and polymer engineering, has been selected as the recipient of the Tan Sri Dr. B.C. Sekhar Gold Medal for his influence on the world's rubber industry.

Rubber industry magazine Rubber Asia instituted the award to honor the late world-renowned polymer scientist Tan Sri Dr. B.C. Sekhar. An international jury of experts selected Gent from a pool of authorities who have made significant contributions to the rubber industry.

"Dr. Gent is a member of the National Academy of Engineering of the U.S. and has been a pioneer advocate of the University’s polymer science and polymer engineering program. His expertise on the physical behavior of polymers is recognized throughout the world," says Dr. Stephen Z.D. Cheng, dean of the UA College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering.

Gent will be honored and recognized at the India Rubber Summit and Dinner on Sept. 3 in Kochi, India.
