Saving Your Files

IMPORTANT:  When working in the virtual lab environment, all your work must be saved to a LOCAL device – such as your computer’s hard drive or a USB device, to the My Documents Folder which is redirected to your UA Zipsace, or to your Google Drive. Faculty & Staff also have the ability to save to their H Drive. You will have the option to save files elsewhere in the virtual environment.  However, if you save to the virtual environment outside of the locations mentioned above, once you close your session the file(s) will be unrecoverable.

Saving Files to a Local Device

Save to one of the drives identified with the drive letter followed by the word Client or Local Drive.  For example, C: (\\Client)(V:) will be the C drive of the computer.  These drives will be located at the bottom of the list. When you click on any Local Device Drives you will be prompted with the following Security Warning. It is necessary to allow Read/Write access in order to save files to a local drive.

Saving Files to UA ZipSpace

To save files to your UA ZipSpace Storage save the files to the “My Documents” Folder on the Virtual Machine. This has been configured to redirect to your ZipSpace. This is the same process that takes place in many physical labs on campus. For more information regarding ZipSpace please visit

Saving Files to Google Drive

To save files to your UA Google Drive “Cloud” Storage, start by saving the document to the local Virtual Machine then open Internet Explorer and  log on to with your UANetID and password.

Click on the Drive Link at the top of the webpage.

Upload files from your computer by clicking on the Upload icon (located to the right of the "Create" button). This will upload file(s) and/or folder(s) to Google's servers and will enable you to share them with anyone you choose. Alternatively, you can choose to keep some or all files private; to use this option, you don't need to do anything other than create the document, since sharing is something you must activate for each file.
