Background check information for College of Education Coursework

  • fingerprintCurrent Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCII) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background checks are required before you may participate in coursework with field experience.
  • You are responsible for presenting copies of your current BCII and FBI background check to your instructor or field experience location upon request.  We recommend you maintain the original for your personal records.
  • The BCII and FBI background check is valid for one year upon the date of completion.  It is incumbent upon all students to report any change in status to the Office of Student Services in the College of Education, Room 002 Zook Hall.
  • A Background Check Acknowledgement form is required for admission to the College of Education and is included in the Teacher Education Application.
  • You can complete your BCII/FBI background check by visiting the University of Akron Police Department (UAPD). It is located in the Physical Facilities Building which is adjacent to E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall (North side).
    • The cost of the BCII and FBI background is $56.00
    • No appointment is necessary.  Call for current hours:  330-972-2911.
    • UAPD accepts only cash or check
    • You must present your driver’s license

  • Background checks can take up to 4 weeks to complete, so plan ahead and do not wait until the last minute.
