Sport Science / Coaching Graduate Program
The sport science graduate program option has been designed to meet the needs of individuals interested in learning how to become effective coaches and administrators in sport organizations. Licensed educators may be able to use the sport science program option to meet the master/30-hour requirement for the second renewal of their professional licensure. However, these individuals should seek renewal from their local professional development committee.
Admissions standards: Full admission to this program is granted to students who have earned a 2.75 grade point average on a completed Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Provisional admission to this program is granted to students who have earned a 2.5- 2.74 grade point average on a completed Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Those receiving provisional admission must meet with the Sport Science/Coaching Committee to plan the necessary 9 credits of course work that need to be completed at the graduate level with a grade of “B” or better before the student can be upgraded to full admission.

Program meets the needs of the state and region: The program meets the needs of Northeast Ohio and the State of Ohio by training students to be effective coaches and administrators and to prepare students for doctoral work in such fields as sport management, sport psychology, and sport coaching.
Placement objectives of graduates: Many job opportunities exist related to the sport science program. Students often pursue employment opportunities in college coaching, university athletic administration, recreational sport or a continue on in a career in teaching and coaching at the secondary level. Currently, graduates of the sport science program are assistant or head coaches at various universities and colleges throughout the nation. Graduates have also pursued careers as strength and conditioning coaches and personal trainers.
