In memory of Dr. Conrad C. Ott, a group of alumni and friends of the College of Education at The University of Akron established an endowed scholarship entitled the Conrad C. Ott Scholars Fund. Higher education had always been a priority to Ott, and this fund is a way to assist educators in achieving their educational goals. Donations to the fund are accepted and appreciated.
Ott, former superintendent and board member of the Akron Public Schools (APS) for 31 years, left a rich legacy for the Akron community. He was a legend. Among his many other stellar accomplishments, he led Akron, an urban district, to achieve A+ status on state evaluations.
This scholarship will be available annually to an APS teacher pursuing a graduate degree in the College of Education. The scholarship promotes Ott’s legacy while supporting a teacher who is following the path in which he wholeheartedly believed. The award recipient(s) and the amount of the annual award will be determined by the Conrad C. Ott Scholars committee and by Mrs. Jeanne Ott, in collaboration with the College of Education.
All donations to The Conrad C. Ott Scholars Fund will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, through a generous bequest from the Mary Frances Shale Trust. The Shale Trust is matching all new gifts in an effort to raise an additional $100,000 for scholarships.
