Center for Child Development

The future of the Center for Child Development

In recent months, the University has conducted an in-depth review of the Center and its operating practices, its relationship to the University’s academic mission, its use by UA and non-UA individuals, its finances and billing practices, and other factors.

The review concluded that very few UA-affiliated faculty, staff and students use the Center’s services; there is only limited academic usage by our students; and the annual financial loss is very significant. In addition, there are building capacity limitations and accreditation requirements that limit our options.

As a result, the administration recommended and the University's Board of Trustees approved plans to cease operations of the Center, effective May 26.

We thank you for your patronage, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have served you.

STEAM colorful

is happening at the Center for Child Development!

Each month, the children at the Center for Child Development are exploring topics that are related to STEAM (Sciences, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) in an effort to align educational experiences for students from the preschool level to the college level.  The Center wants to make this a community effort with great representation from our colleagues at the University of Akron.

Our Programs

The Center for Child Development offers both Toddler and Preschool programs.  Our bright, cheerful classrooms offer quality programs and learning experiences for each child, based on the Creative Curriculum framework. Our teachers meet all licensing requirements by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
