Housed in The Center for Literacy, the Akron Center for E-Learning (AKCEL), designs, develops and builds online professional development courses and resources for literacy educators and parents. In school-based study groups, teachers work together to use online materials and attend face-to-face meetings as they learn research-based instructional strategies. Online professional development engages teachers in new and innovative ways and prepares them for greater success in the classroom, yielding long-term benefits.
