About Student Teaching

What is Student Teaching?

Student Teaching is the capstone experience of the educational program.  It is designed to provide instructional and leadership opportunities for preservice teachers, opportunities that prepare educators to be decison-makers. They also enhance community partnerships through standard-setting programs that promote teaching, learning, and human development. All of these elements are reflected in the College of Education's mission statement and conceptual framework.

FBI and BCI Requirements

If you are taking a course which requires field work, or student teaching, you are now REQUIRED to have both a BCI and FBI clearance.

  • You may NOT take expired documents to your field placement or student teaching sites.
  • Do not wait until the start of the semester; please handle this immediately so your paperwork is ready for the start of the spring semester.

Also, if you will be graduating within the year, please have your BCI and FBI sent electronically to ODE for licensure purposes (to save you money from having to do it again.)

Finally, if you are in Early Childhood licensure, you must have your BCI and FBI sent to the COE, Office of Student Teaching; they MUST be addressed to an institution, not to your home address.  When the documents arrive, we will contact you to pick them up for placement purposes.

Always request a copy for your own records. You will have to have a copy with you to present to the school. With the exception of Early Childhood students, you do NOT need to have a copy sent to the COE.
