Welcome Message from the Office of Outreach and Professional Learning
A word of welcome from Barbara Jenkins, Director of Outreach
Welcome to the Office of Outreach and Professional Learning. The Office of Outreach provides traditional educational opportunities to teachers limited by time, place, and outside commitments. We do this by offering Master’s programs, workshops, and a variety of endorsements at various locations throughout Northeast Ohio. Programs and courses are delivered at alternative times and through a variety of formats to allow educators to complete a master’s degree in as little as two years. If you are interested in taking the next step in your career with The Office of Outreach and Professional Learning, please contact me at bmj@uakron.edu or (330) 972-2777.

Allen Elementary Sixth Graders Visit The University of Akron
Allen Elementary in Canton, Ohio, is a professional development school working with The College of Education and the offices of Student Teaching and Field Experience and Outreach and Professional Learning. After six months of hard work, the sixth grade class from Allen Elementary participates in a visit to The University of Akron for a fun-filled tour of the campus. The sixth graders earn this trip by completing a program aimed at setting goals and being an active participant in their school and community. This program, implemented by Barbara Jenkins (Director of Outreach) and Pamela Spinner (Director of Student Teaching and Field Experience), helps to prepare students for a lifetime of learning by providing them with the tools they’ll need to be successful in school. Our Office provides professional development workshops for teachers; we partner with educational organizations to provide face-to-face and online programming; and we offer school districts the opportunity to offer graduate credit for PD done in-district. We currently have great partnerships with Educational Service Centers, State Support Teams, companies and school districts in Summit and surrounding counties.
