Students in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering have the opportunity to focus their studies on certain areas of study. As a result, these students can enter these areas prepared to make an impact. Our areas of study include: Bioreaction engineering; Enzymatic synthesis; Biomaterials; Catalysis; Molecular simulation; Colloids and adhesion; Chaos and controls; Supercritical fluids
BIOTECHNOLOGY & BIOENGINEERING
Students will learn about controlling the escalating health costs with innovations of pharmaceutical drugs, improving our living environment, and using microorganisms and enzymes for manufacturing high value chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs.
ENERGY and the ENVIRONMENT
Students will learn how to reduce our nation’s dependence on foreign oil by developing alternative, renewable energy sources, fuel cells, and other energy conversion devices. Students will also learn how to develop green engineering and advanced environmental protection technology based on engineering fundamentals.
MATERIALS
Students will learn about improving living standards by developing new products like lightweight, high strength composite polymers for automobiles, construction, textiles, and building materials. Through unique research experiences students will develop new biomaterials, nanomaterials, and functionally smart materials.
