All Civil Engineering faculty advise undergraduate students. When a student is admitted into the Department, the student is assigned an advisor, given a curriculum flow sheet, and a Civil Engineering Record. The Record indicates all requirements for the degree and the flow sheet indicates the pre- and co-requisite courses, the order courses should be taken, and the semesters in which some courses are only offered.
Students schedule their classes online. A master Civil Engineering Record is maintained by the department, showing the status of completion of the program of study. Two flow sheets are available, one for a four-year degree and a second for the five-year co-op program providing a full year of engineering co-op experience. The student should consult the flow sheets for the typical sequence of courses. The Civil Engineering Record lists courses that can satisfy the Technical Elective course requirements.
Dr. Ala Abbas assists honors students in the selection of distribution courses and in their honors projects. He approves course changes and advises honors students on scheduling.
