Biography

Hamid Bahrami is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Akron, Ohio. His main area of research includes wireless communications, information theory, communication network design and applications of signal processing in communications. He received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from McGill University, Montreal, Canada in 2008. His Ph.D. research work is on the design of advanced transmission schemes for MIMO and cooperative communications. From 2007 to 2009 and prior to joining the University of Akron, he was working as a scientist in a Canadian high-tech company, Wavesat Inc. At Wavesat, he was responsible for developing receiver algorithms for implementation of mobile WiMAX and LTE standards on the company’s system-on-a-chip advanced architecture. Hamid Bahrami has B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees both in electrical engineering from Sharif University of Technology and University of Tehran, Iran, respectively. He has served as the reviewer for the IEEE Transaction on Wireless Communications, the IEEE Transaction on Vehicular Technology and EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking and as the Technical Program Committee member of IEEE GLOBECOM conference and International Conference on Communication (ICC).


Research Accomplishments

I am currently working on the design of advanced transmission/reception schemes for wireless communications especially for broadcast and multi-access systems. I also investigate new transmission strategies in multi-user communications especially MIMO-OFDM systems with special emphasis on the use of partial and imperfect channel information (limited feedback). Other areas I have worked and am interested in include:

  • Design and evaluation of user selection and scheduling schemes
  • Cooperative communications and relay networks/systems
  • Stochastic communication channels/systems modeling
  • Optimization and applications of numerical methods in Communications
  • Applied Linear Algebra in Communication Systems
  • Application of minimum feedback in wireless communication systems
  • Use of partial and imperfect channel knowledge in design of suboptimum transmission schemes
