Open Rank Non-tenured Faculty Position in Design

The College of Engineering at The University of Akron is inviting applications for the position of Design Professor in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates must possess a doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline. The rank (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) will match the experience.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a proven track record of industrial and teaching experience in machine design. Once hired, the candidate will be responsible for teaching design courses as well as coordinating capstone design projects for seniors in the department. There are currently 130 seniors doing their capstone projects, and enrollments have been growing steadily.  The candidate is expected to bring industry-funded senior design projects and help students in student design competitions such as the ones organized by the  SAE, ASME and industry. This is a non-tenure track position with an ongoing renewable appointment.

The Department presently includes 29 full-time faculty and one research faculty. It offers BS, MS and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering in areas of specialization spanning thermo-fluids, mechanics of solids, vibrations, controls, and materials science & engineering. The Department houses a modern undergraduate laboratory with infrastructure that is being continuously updated and upgraded, as well as significant computational resources. The Department currently has 900 undergraduate and 100 graduate students.
