2017 Kids’ Career Day

Kids' Career Day is a half-day program designed to involve children in interactive activities related to occupations in engineering, science, technology, and math. Each activity at Kids' Career Day is led by and showcases professional women who are currently employed as scientists, mathematicians, and engineers.

The program is held at the University of Akron campus and registration is limited and often closes prior to the registration deadline. Cost is $16 per girl and includes continental breakfast and snack. Registration forms can be found by clicking on the link below or by filling out a Kids’ Career Day registration forms from Girl Scouts of North East Ohio Council Locations and libraries in Stark and Summit Counties. Forms can be e-mailed to hec9@uakron.edu or mailed to Heidi Cressman @ Auburn Science and Engineering Center, 201 Akron, OH 44325-3901. Credit card payment is accepted by clicking on the link below or participants may pay by check made out to “The University of Akron”. Early registrations are not accepted and registration will not be accepted on the day of the event. Payment is non-refundable.


2017 Summer Experience in Engineering (See UA) Summer Camp

SEE UA! camp at the University of Akron is an engaging one week residential and day summer camp for girls entering the ninth through twelfth grades that immerses the girls into biomedical, civil, chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering.  Each day is comprised of fun-filled hands-on engineering activities in the morning that are led by our talented faculty, followed by dynamic tours of local engineering firms and then campus-wide activities in the evening. The campers also spend the week working as a team on an engineering design project or research project and then compete against other camp teams at the end of the week. Campers live in residence housing located on campus where the resident assistants are upper-class engineering students. While there, they can experience the life of a college student while exploring various engineering disciplines available at The University of Akron. Even the resident assistants are upper-class engineering studentsDay camp is available for students that have evening obligations. Please click on link above to download application forms. 2017 Multiplying Your Options (MYO) Summer Day Camp

Multiplying Your Options (MYO) camp at the University of Akron is a one week summer day camp for girls entering the seventh and eighth grades that introduces the girls to biomedical, civil, chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering.  Each day is comprised of hands-on engineering activities in the morning led by our talented faculty and is followed by dynamic tours of local engineering firms in the afternoon. The students also spend the week working as a team, designing an edible car and competing against other student teams at the end of the week.  Please click on the link above to download application forms. Students do not pay the $250 fee (scholarships are available) until they receive their acceptance packet. To register, print the forms, complete the steps required (teacher's evaluation should be sent directly from the teacher), and send them to the address below.

Inquire! Innovate! Invent! Day

Event Date: November 12, 2016 (8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.)

Registration limited to 250 girls
Registration: September 1 - October 31, 2016  (no exceptions)

Spark your creative side by taking part in this event for girls in 6th through 12th grade or Cadette, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts. The program is designed to teach girls how the innovations of women have impacted many lives and how they can become innovators and inventors. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. and the program runs from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Join us and take the opportunity to talk to female engineers and scientists, meet inventors, learn about patent law, explore careers in research and development, explore your creative side while working hand in hand with science and get the opportunity to participate in fun, creative, design and build activities.  Participants will also do a service project that will help younger girls learn about science and engineering.  

All participants will receive a bag and a fun patch. A light breakfast and lunch are included in the day’s events. The program is held at the Student Union at The University of Akron. The cost is $12, and registration is limited and often closes prior to the registration deadline.

Women in Engineering Visit Day and Donovan Breakfast

Event Date: Dec. 10, 2016 (8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.)

Registration: November 15th – December 1, 2016

This FREE event is open to all girls that are Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors in high school or Seniors and Ambassadors in Girl Scouts who would like to learn more about engineering at The University of Akron.  The program is designed to allow girls to meet professional engineers, engineering students and other girls that share their interest in innovations and marvels of engineering.  A leadership workshop, an honors engineering panel and engineering project are part of the day!  So come join us to find out more about engineering! Check-in begins at 8 a.m. and the program runs from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. So, join us and take the opportunity to talk to role models in engineering. All participants will receive a free breakfast and activity to take home. The program is held at the Student Union at The University of Akron.

Students take part in science experiments during Inspiration Day in March of 2016. It was a day for girls to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) with The University of Akron and the U.S. Department of Defense.
