2012 Kids' Career Day

Dates:

  • Saturday, March 3, 2012, (8:00a.m.-12:30p.m.)
    Registration: December 15th - January 31, 2012 (no exceptions)

Want to have a unique and exciting chance to touch science!!! Kids Career Day is a ½ day program that is designed to involve children in interactive activities related to occupations in engineering, science, technology, and math. Each activity at Kids Career Day is led by and showcases professional women who are currently employed as scientists, mathematicians, and engineers. The program is held at the University of Akron Campus and registration is limited and often closes prior to the registration deadline. Cost is $8.00 per girl and includes continental breakfast and snack. Registration forms can be found online www.wiep.uakron.edu or by filling out a Kids’ Career Day registration forms from Girl Scouts of North East Ohio Council Locations and libraries in Stark and Summit Counties.  Forms can be e-mailed to hec9@uakron.edu or mailing to Heidi Cressman @ Auburn Science and Engineering Center, 201 Akron, OH 44325-3901.  Credit card payment is accepted by clicking on the link below or participants may pay by check made out to “The University of Akron”. Early registrations are not accepted and registration will not be accepted on the day of the event. Payment is non-refundable.

2012 Multiplying Your Options (MYO) Summer Camp

Multiplying Your Options (MYO) camp at the University of Akron is a one week summer day camp for girls entering the seventh and eighth grades that introduces the girls to mechanical, aerospace, biomedical, civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical and mechanical polymer engineering.    Each day is comprised of hands-on engineering activities in the morning led by our talented faculty and is followed by dynamic tours of local engineering firms in the afternoon. The students also spend the week working as a team, designing an edible car and competing against other student teams at the end of the week.     Please click on the link to download application forms.  Print the forms, fill them out, and send them to the address below

2012 Summer Experience in Engineering (SEE UA) Summer Camp

SEE UA! camp at the University of Akron is an engaging one week residential summer camp for girls entering the ninth through twelfth grades that immerses the girls into aerospace, biomedical, civil, chemical, electrical, mechanical and mechanical polymer engineering.   Each day is comprised of fun-filled hands-on engineering activities in the morning led by our talented faculty, followed by dynamic tours of local engineering firms and then campus-wide activities in the evening. The students also spend the week working as a team on an engineering design project or research project and then compete against other student teams at the end of the week.  Students live in residence housing located on campus where the resident assistants are upper-class engineering students.  While there, they can experience the life of a college student while exploring various engineering disciplines available at the University of Akron.   Even the resident assistants are upper-class engineering studentsPlease click on link to download application forms.  Print the forms, fill them out, and send them to the address below:

Inventions and Inquiry

Registration limited to 30 girls

This event for Cadette, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts is designed to teach participants about the impact that females have had on science and engineering. Join us from 8:00 until 2:00 p.m. and take the opportunity to talk to female engineers, learn about patent law, explore careers in research and development and get the opportunity to design and build a toy using recycled materials. All participants will earn the “Inventions and Inquiry” Interest Badge. A light breakfast and lunch are included in the day’s events.   The program is held at the University of Akron Campus and registration is limited and often closes prior to the registration deadline.
