The Literary Guild & The Upstart Crows

The Literary Guild is a group of graduate and undergraduate students from many majors who are interested in literature and share a common love for the written word. The Literary Guild sponsors a reading group and a writing group, dubbed The Upstart Crows, which hosts “open mic” poetry nights, travels to see plays performed in Akron and Cleveland, and engages in a variety of other intellectual and social activities throughout the year. New members from all majors are always welcome.

In November 2011, The Lit Guild went to BGSU for Winter Wheat. Read about it here.

Upstart Crows Writing Workshop

Share your writing with others in the Upstart Crows Writing Workshop. It meets one Friday a month -- check the English Department Events section on our home page for the next regular meeting time, date, and place. Bring 15+ copies of a poem or a short-short story (about one page for either), and get ready for some helpful feedback and literary fun.

Open Mic Night

Stay tuned for our Upstart Crows Open Mic night! We take to the stage and enjoy the inspiring space of Nervous Dog, a coffeehouse off Market Street for an evening of prose and poetry reading. Bring up to 3 pages of poetry, prose, etc.

Get in touch with culture through local events and readings; see the English Department Event Calendar for upcoming readings, colloquia, or panels. Most events are free and open to the public!
