SHAKESPEARE ON FILM is the focus of this Summer Intersession 2014 course
Selected plays are read closely and discussed. Films are shown in class and analyzed, contrasting Shakespeare’s play text with the film maker’s modern interpretation. Important films screened may include those by contemporary directors such as Luhrmann, Branagh, Radford, Doran, Taymor, and Zeffirelli. Students in ALL MAJORS are welcome. In addition, English majors, Education majors, Communication majors, and teachers should find SHAKESPEARE ON FILM an especially enjoyable, useful, and productive course. Satisfies the undergraduate Shakespeare requirement, the graduate Shakespeare requirement, the graduate requirement for a British literature course before 1660, and the minor in popular literature and film requirement.
