NOTE THESE IMPORTANT DEADLINES!
NEW FRESHMEN:
New freshmen will be awarded scholarships based primarily on high school academic records and ACT/SAT test scores on file with the Office of Admissions. Students must be fully admitted to The University of Akron by March 1 in order to be considered for all available scholarships. Students with additional personal factors that they would like to have considered may complete the New Freshmen Supplemental Information Form. (click to download)
CONTINUING STUDENTS/TRANSFER STUDENTS:
Continuing students and Transfer students must submit a
Continuing Students and Transfer Students Undergraduate Scholarship Application (click to download) no later than April 1 to be considered for scholarships for the following academic year.
ALL STUDENTS:
Although most scholarships do not require students to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), for full consideration for all types of aid you should complete a FAFSA form no later than March 1 preceding the new academic year.
Generally, students who receive scholarships should have full-time enrollment.
Most scholarships are granted on an annual basis prior to the fall semester.
Following is a list of scholarship opportunities available at The University of Akron.
Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, and students are encouraged to contact their college within the University for information regarding scholarships they offer, as well as professional and other student organizations with which they are affiliated to pursue other possible scholarship opportunities.
University of Akron Scholarships for First-time Freshmen
SCHOLARSHIP FOR EXCELLENCE
Recipients will be selected from applicants with the highest combination of high school grade point average (minimum 3.80), and standardized test scores (minimum 29 ACT/1280 SAT).
New freshmen must be fully admitted by March 1 preceding their first academic year.
Award Amount: $6,000
Recipients who are admitted to the Honors College may also receive an Honors Scholarship (see below) in addition to this award.
Renewal GPA: Scholarship for Excellence-3.25
Minimum Enrollment: Full-time undergraduate (12 credits/semester)
PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Recipients are selected from applicants with a high combination of high school grade point average (minimum 3.50), and standardized test scores (minimum 27 ACT/1200 SAT).
New freshmen must be fully admitted by March 1 preceding their first academic year.
Award Amount: $3,000
Recipients who are admitted to the Honors College may also receive an Honors Scholarship (see below) in addition to this award.
Renewal GPA: Presidential Scholarship-3.25
Minimum Enrollment: Full-time undergraduate (12 credits/semester)
PARTNERS IN EXCELLENCE
Recipients are selected from applicants with a good combination of high school grade point average (minimum 3.30), and standardized test scores (minimum 23 ACT/1050 SAT). New freshmen must be fully admitted by March 1 the year preceding their initial enrollment to be considered.
Award Amount: $1,000-$2000
Recipients who are admitted to the Honors College may also receive an Honors Scholarship (see below) in addition to this award.
Renewal GPA: Partners-3.0
STUDENT SUCCESS
Recipients are selected from applicants with an above average combination of high school grade point average (minimum 3.0), and standardized test scores (minimum 22 ACT/1010 SAT) who also have significant financial need.
Award Amount: $1,500
Recipients who are admitted to the Honors College may also receive an Honors Scholarship (see below) in addition to this award.
Renewal: 2.75
Minimum Enrollment: Full-time undergraduate (12 credits/semester)
NATIONAL MERIT FINALIST
Students who are selected as National Merit Finalists will receive a minimum $6,000 Scholarship for Excellence (above), renewable for three additional years for a total of 8 semesters. Finalists who apply, and are admitted to the Honors College will receive an additional Honors Scholarship award from the Honors College of $3000.
Renewal GPA: National Merit Finalist-3.25
Minimum Enrollment: Full-time undergraduate (12 credits/semester)
HONORS SCHOLARSHIP

Recipients must be admitted to the Honors College to receive these scholarships. Honors Scholarship awards are in addition to other University Scholarships.
Early Admission Deadline: November 1 preceding the academic year
Standard Admission Deadline February 1.

University of Akron Scholarships for Transfer Students
PHI THETA KAPPA SCHOLARSHIP
Awards for students transferring from community colleges at which they are members of Phi Theta Kappa Honorary Society.
Award Amount: $1,000 per year
Renewal: 3.0—maximum of six full-time semesters
TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIPS
Awards to students transferring to The University of Akron with at least 24 semester hours of credit. Minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 required. Application deadline: April 1 (for fall semester)
Award Amounts: $1,500 (cumulative GPA of at least 3.50); $1000 (cumulative GPA of at least 3.25)
Renewal: 3.0---maximum six full-time semesters.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR NON-RESIDENT STUDENTS
AKRON ADVANTAGE AWARDS
Akron Advantage Blue Award
$5900 Scholarship award applied toward out-of-state tuition charges.
(per academic year).
Full-time, First-time Freshmen students from one of the 49 states outside of Ohio and all U.S. territories must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
• 3.0 high school GPA (based on 6th semester transcript)
• 1000 SAT combined (critical reading and math score)
• 21 ACT
• Direct admission to a degree granting college
• Dependent of a UA alumnus/alumna
Akron Advantage Gold Award
$9800 scholarship award applied towards out-of-state tuition charges (per academic year).
Full-time, First-time Freshmen students from one of the 49 states outside of Ohio and all U.S. territories must meet two of the following eligibility criteria:
• High school GPA of at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (based on 6th semester transcript)
• Top 10% of their high school class
• ACT composite test score of at least a 27 or SAT combined test score of at least 1200 (critical reading and math scores)
In addition to the above eligibility criteria for the Blue and Gold Awards, students must meet the following to remain eligible to receive the awards:
• Out-of-state residency status (as stated above, a student from one of the 49 states outside of Ohio and all U.S. territories)
• Full-time status (at least 12 credit hours per semester - Fall and Spring)
• Remain in good academic standing
• Renewable up to four academic years

THE JIM & VANITA OELSCHLAGER
LEADERSHIP AWARDS
WHITE OAK SCHOLARSHIP
(One Award Annually)
Award Description:
Four years of tuition & fees, room, meal plan, text book allowance.
Qualifications:
Student must reside in the Greater Akron area or attend Mt. Pleasant or Ligonier High schools in Western Pennsylvania;
Top 10% of high school graduating class;
Campus & community leadership expected;
Requires minimum of a 3.5 for renewal.
PIN OAK SCHOLARSHIP
(12 Awarded annually)
Award Description:
$5000 towards tuition and fees renewable for 8 semesters.
Qualifications:
Available to students in top 25% of graduating class
Extensive Campus and community leadership required
Requires a minimum 3.25 gpa
RED OAK SCHOLARSHIP
(15 awards annually)
Award Description:
Awarded at $1000 for first year, May increase in subsequent years based on cummulative gpawhile attending college--$2500 (3.0 gpa); $5000 (3.25 gpa)
This scholarship is primarily awarded to students who have successfully participated in the Oelschlager Summer Leadership Institute during the summer between their junior & senior year of high school and have exhibited extensive campus & community leadership.
OAK LEAF SCHOLARSHIP
(Twenty awards annually)
Award Description:
$2500 annually for students who transfer to the University of Akron from two-year programs at area community colleges. Available for 4 full-time semesters.
Qualifications:
Recipients must be Transfer students from local community colleges with at least 20 hours of credit, a cumulative gpa of at least 3.0 and must provide documentation of service & leadership experience attached to scholarship application. Students must maintain 3.25 cumulative gpa for renewal.
SCHOLARSHIPS FROM UA COLLEGES
Most colleges within the University offer collegial level scholarships. Some are offered to incoming freshmen, while others are awarded to continuing students within the college. Contact the Deans Office of your college for information regarding these scholarships. See below for offerings from specific colleges.

SCHOLARSHIPS FROM THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
The College of Engineering offers over 80 scholarships to students of Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Computer, Mechanical and Mechanical Polymer Engineering.
