Information on Aid for Summer Sessions

Summer Aid Applications for Summer 2008 will be available on line after 12 noon March 14, 2008 and continue to be available online until noon 6/2/08.

NOTE: IF IT IS AFTER 12 NOON 6/2/08, the Summer Aid Application has been removed from this site.

Paper Applications will be available at Simmons Hall until the close of business 4:30 p.m. 6/2/08 and must be completed and turned in by 4:30 p.m on this date.

ALL SUMMER AID APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE OFFICE OF STUDENT FINANCIAL AID & STUDENT EMPLOYMENT (Windows 2-6 Student Services Center, Simmons Hall Student Services Lobby or Financial Aid Drop Box in that lobby NO LATER THAN THE END OF BUSINESS (4:30 p.m.) JUNE 2, 2008.

Please remember that in order for our office to accept your completed Summer 2008 Aid Application, The '08-09 FAFSA must be on file.

Further, any standards violations must be resolved for a student to be eligible for summer aid for Summer 2008.

Therefore, it is imperative that if you are interested in receiving aid for summer school, that you perform well academically during the 2007-2008 year, AND that you complete the 2008-2009 FAFSA early--ideally, as soon as possible before 3/1/08.

Remember:
1. In order to receive summer aid, you MUST have a FAFSA form for the upcoming academic year on file with the federal government. Verification must be completed, and you must not be in violiation of the Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress.

2. Any aid you receive in a summer session can (and most likely will!) reduce your Fall/Spring aid for the next year. This is especially true of Pell Grant & Stafford Loan monies received in summer! IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTION ABOUT HOW YOUR SUMMER AID WILL AFFECT YOUR FALL/SPRING ELIGIBILITY DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT A FINANCIAL AID COUNSELOR TO DISCUSS YOUR SITUATION!!!!!!

3.To receive Stafford or other loans, you must request them. There are two ways to do this. The quickest is to use the "View my financial aid" link in Zipline. The second is to visit the Student Services Windows 2-6 in Simmons Hall, ask for, complete, and return the 2008 Summer Loan Request Form to our office. Note: You cannot request your loans until you have received your summer financial aid award either online or in its paper version!

4. Pell grants and Ohio Instructional Grants which are not listed as an "estimate" on the award notification used during summer will apply towards the bill, HOWEVER, monies from these programs cannot be released for expense monies until after July 1.

NOTE: Ohio College Opportunity Grant, Ohio Instructional Grant & Part-Time Ohio Grants will be awarded as estimates and will not apply to the invoice until a roster of eligible students is received from the Ohio Board of Regents. We expect OBR to provide this roster by mid-July, but cannot guarantee a specific date.

If the loan disbursement (assuming the student has loans) is not sufficient to cover the entire bill, then the grant monies will be used to cover remaining charges. IT IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE THAT YOU MAY OWE MORE MONEY THAN YOU HAVE AID TO COVER.

THIS BALANCE IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!

5. In order to be eligible to use a pell grant for summer you must be enrolled in your classes no later than the 15th day of Summer I classes (June 2, 2008) regardless of which summer session the class is scheduled in.

*Students who change classes (or sections) or change hours after this date may lose some or all of their Summer Pell eligibility. Please contact the financial aid office BEFORE making any schedule change after the 15th day of classes (June 2, 2008) in Summer I 2008--even if these changes are for other summer sessions!

REMEMBER:
You may not receive enough aid to pay for your entire summer bill, if this is the case you are responsible for paying for or making arrangements for paying (Summer Installment Payment Plan) the remaining balance. If payment, or payment arrangements are not made in a timely fashion (as listed with Student Accounts) summer classes can be dropped. Unpaid summer balances can have consequences for the ability to register for or maintain registration in Fall classes.

If you need to make arrangements to pay your summer bill using the Summer Installment Payment Plan, or if you prefer to pay the remaining balance directly, you should contact student accounts at 330-972-5100 or through the Cashier's windows in the student services lobby in Simmmons Hall for assistance.

If you have further questions about summer aid, please contact our office through the service windows in the student services lobby in Simmons Hall, or by phone at 330-972-7032.
